Michael Jordon is the greatest basketball player so far. Once he was making a television advertisement. All Michael needed to do in the advertisement was to miss a shot. For Michael, this was difficult. He always succeeded whenever he was throwing the ball. Every time he threw a basketball, it went in. Every time he tried to miss a shot, he failed. In total, it took him over 20 times before he missed a shot.

For Michael, success is a strong habit. He had formed a habit which was so strong that it took him a lot of time to break it and “fail”. Many people think that success is difficult to maintain（维持）. They feel that it will be hard work and will need too much action and focus. The truth is that it is simply a habit, and as easy to keep as any other habit.

    Most children like the summer holiday. It is usually long. During the summer holiday, children like to have a good time outdoors (在户外).

    Jimmy is a 15⁃year⁃old American boy. His summer holiday is coming. It is from July 1st to August 20th. He wants to travel. He usually travels in America, but this summer he wants to do something different. He learns a lot about China on the Internet, so he wants to take a trip to China. He also wants to learn about Chinese history, so he plans to visit Beijing and Xi' an. He is going to leave on August 3rd and take a plane to Beijing first. He plans to stay in the two places for 10 days. During these days, he plans to visit the Summer Palace, the Great Wall, the Terracotta Warriors (兵马俑) and Huashan Mountain. He hopes he will have a great time in China. He can't wait!

    Mr. and Mrs. Su don't often go out in the evening, but today they go out for a walk after supper. They go to the park and have a good time there. On their way home, Mr. Su says to Mr. Su, "Look! A woman is running in the street and a man is running after her." Mr. Su says, "What's the matter? Let's go and help her."

    Now the woman gets near them. Mr. Su asks, "Shall we help you?" "No, thank you," the woman says, "My husband（丈夫） and I are running home, and the slower (较慢的) one does the housework."

    A woman bought a parrot from a pet store. However, the woman decided to return the parrot to the shop the next day.

    "This bird doesn't talk," she told the pet shop owner.

    "Does he have a mirror in his cage(笼子)?" the owner asked. "Parrots love mirrors."

    The woman bought a mirror and left. The next day she came back, saying that the bird still wasn't talking.

    "How about a ladder? Parrots love ladders," the owner said. The woman bought a ladder and left. But the next day, she was back.

    "Does your parrot have a swing? No? Well, once he starts swinging, he'll talk," the owner said.

    The woman then bought a swing and left.

    When she walked into the store the next day, she began to cry. "The parrot died," she said.

    The pet store owner was shocked. "I'm sorry. Tell me, did he ever say anything?" he asked.

    "Yes, right before he died," the woman answered, "in a low voice, he asked me, 'Don't they sell any food at that pet store?'"

    Sometimes we forget what's really necessary in life. We sometimes have lots of things to do at once, but we forget to deal with the most important things first. We have to remember to "feed the parrots" in our lives.

    Paul can play basketball and volleyball very well. One Friday afternoon, when Paul came out of his classroom, one of his classmates said to him, "Paul, your father is waiting for you at the school gate."

    On their way home, Paul saw some boys skating in the park. He wanted to skate with them, but his father said, "You have much homework to do today. You must go back home and do your homework. Then I'll buy you an ice cream." Paul finished his homework and got his ice cream. He started to eat it, but a fly (苍蝇) came along. It landed on the ice cream. Paul's father told him to drive (驱赶) the fly away. Paul said, "You won't let me skate, but the fly doesn't have homework. Can't you let it skate for a while?"
