One day,all the birds decided to hold a1to see who could be the king.

    The crow(乌鸦)said,“The one who flew the2could be the king.”Everybody3.As the birds got ready for the competition,no one noticed a small sparrow(麻雀）creeping(缓慢行进）under the wings of an eagle(老鹰).Before the competition was over,the sparrow came out from the eagle's wings and4shouted loudly.He wanted to fly the highest.

    The other birds heard the noise and found out what happened.They were angry5the sparrow and they decided to punish him,The sparrow flew into a small6in an old tree.None of the other birds could fly into the hole7it was too small.

    The owl was known to be the8.Other birds asked him to watch the hole and to9the sparrow.Hours passed and the owl grew sleepy.When the owl10his eyes,the sparrow flew away.

    The owl felt ashamed and thought that he would no longer be called wise.So he decided to come out only at night.He didn't want anyone to see him.

    One day, the students of Class 6 were reading in the classroom. Mrs. Brown came in and told the whole class they would have to change the1the next week. All of the students disagreed2Mrs. Brown, so they shouted when Mrs. Brown said it was because a new student would3 the class.“Why must we move to another classroom just because someone new is coming?” One of them asked 4. Mrs. Brown stood there without saying anything. After a few minutes, she told them to be5to their new classmate and then she left.

    The following week, the head teacher, Mr. White himself brought the new student to their class.6he pushed the new student to the class because the student was in a wheelchair（轮椅）. Mr. White introduced the new student Jeff to the class. He said that Jeff now was a7 of the class and they should work together. He added, “Helping each other is very important.”8could fully understand what. Mr. White meant at first.

    Over time, they began to understand the reason. Jeff was a9student and often helped the students who didn't understand their work. The c lass felt very thankful to him. They took care of him because they knew that when someone did something for you, you should do something10in return.

    In 2011, Henry and I took our children to London to watch the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. We 1 Buckingham Palace at nine o'clock in the morning. The wedding was at eleven o'clock, but the streets were 2 crowded.

    There were big screens around Buckingham Palace and we watched the wedding service at Westminster Abbey 3 the screens. Kate looked beautiful. She wore a nice white dress. Prince William wore a smart red uniform.

    4 the wedding service, Prince William and Kate left for Buckingham Palace. We waited 5 . Everyone was shouting and cheering. Even the policemen were happy and making 6 . Suddenly we heard the sound of music and drums. A group of soldiers(士兵)were 7 along the street. They were walking and playing music. After them we saw a beautiful carriage(四轮马车).

    8 the carriage came close to the place where we were standing. People around us were cheering loudly. My 9 were shouting excitedly. Henry was taking photos. Prince William smiled and waved at(向……挥手)us. He looked so happy and friendly. It was a fantastic experience and I will never 10 it.

Celebrate the Good Days

    It was in April of what seemed to be a great year. I was in fourth grade with the greatest teacher, Miss De Rosear -- the coolest teacher. I had just come home from school to find Mum at home. That was1because she never arrived home before me. Mum was sitting on the sofa with Dad. A thousand terrible things started flashing through my mind. What if Grandma had passed away? I did not have the 2to say goodbye. What if my brother was hurt? As I crawled(爬) up on the sofa next to Mum, she gave me a kiss and a huge smile, so I3and went on with my normal after-school activities. During the TV show that I always watched after school, Mum started getting phone calls. The calls continued for the rest of the night. Each time the4 rang, Mum rushed to her room.  I then knew that something bad had happened.

    When Mum came back, I asked, "Mum, why do you keep on5the room every time you get a phone call?

    She turned to my sister and me and said, "Girls, I have something to tell you. I have cancer(癌症). "

    As she said that I felt a sharp pain in my heart. I was thinking, "Why is God taking my mum from me so soon? What have I done?" I didn't know that we were just beginning a very long, 6 journey.

    The next day on the bus I turned to my friend, Kate. "My mum... "That was all I could say before I started crying. Kate gave me a big hug and said 7, "I know, and I'm here for you." I knew that Kate would support me.

    During the summer, Mum stayed home. On the good days, sister and I talked about what we were going to do next day, week, month, or year with 8. We never talked about losing her.

    We got9from many different people. When school started again, Mum had to have surgery(手术). I stayed with one of my teachers, Mrs. Stephens. Mrs Stephens made me rainbow French toast. She was always there for me with a smile, a hug, or --it will be okay advice.

    On April 5, my morn became a five-year survivor (幸存者). When that day came, we had a big party. Friends came from far and wide to celebrate how10Mum is and her success against cancer!

    There will be good days and bad days--some more bad than good. But as I have learned from my mother, celebrate the good days!

    You have probably heard the expression, "It's raining cats and dogs outside." It means that it's raining very hard but not that 1 cats and dogs are filling from the sky. 2, one day in June, 1882, it really did rain 3 over Dubuque, Iowa. The frogs began falling along with hailstones (冰雹) during a 4 storm.

    Hail is 5 when drops of rainwater are caught by heavy winds and are carried high up into the air. There the raindrops become 6. Many drops may freeze together to form 7 of ice; these ice balls, or hailstones, then 8 to earth.

    During the storm in Dubuque, the strong winds 9 small frogs from nearby ponds into the air along with raindrops. When some of these frogs became covered 10 ice, both hailstones and "frog-stones" fell onto the ground.
