To the world's science and technology, now satellites are helping to forecast (预报) the weather. They are in space, and they can reach any part of the world. The satellites take pictures of the atmosphere, because this is where the weather forms. They send these pictures to the weather stations. So meteorologists (气象学家) can see the weather of any part of the world. From the picture with the rapid developments, the scientists can often say how the weather will change.

Today, nearly five hundred weather stations in sixty countries receive satellite pictures. When they receive new pictures, the meteorologists compare them with earlier ones. Perhaps they may find that the clouds have changed during the last few hours. This may mean that the weather on the ground may soon change, too. In their next weather forecast, the meteorologists can say this.

The weather satellites are also used for other work. So satellites are great help to the meteorologists. Before satellites were invented, the scientists could forecast the weather for about 24 or 48 hours. Now they can make good forecasts for three or five days. Soon, perhaps, they may be able to forecast the weather for a week or more ahead.

(1)、As we know, satellites travel ________.
A、in the atmosphere B、in space C、above the ground D、above space
(2)、According to the passage satellites are used in ________.
A、weather forecasting B、the study of space C、receiving pictures D、comparing pictures
(3)、Weather satellites take pictures of the atmosphere because ________.
A、it is easy to do B、clouds form there C、the weather forms there D、rain and snow form there
(4)、Meteorologists forecast the weather ________.
A、when they receive satellite pictures B、after they have taken pictures of clouds C、before they receive pictures D、after they have compared new satellite pictures with earlier ones
(5)、With the development of science and technology, man will soon be able to forecast the weather for ________.
A、24 or 48 hours B、three or five days C、nearly a week D、a week or even longer

Lockheed Martin, an American space system company(空间系统公司) in Maryland, has found a really cool way to inspire the young kids of today to the research fields in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM).

It may look like a common yellow bus, but all the magic happens once you get inside. "Mars Experience Bus" is part of Lockheed Martin's new "Generation Beyond" national education programme. It gives kids a chance to join in and study what goes on outside of our home planet. The bus offers a virtual reality(VR, 虚拟现实)experience making the teenagers feel like they are driving on Mars.

The VR experience was developed by using software(软件) created for today's best video games, so you can imagine the picture shown is top level. The kids do seem really excited to see the bus take a virtual trip on the red planet and search unknown places. It's certainly a great way of learning about the universe(宇宙) by virtual reality working on a common bus.

The Lockheed Martin's bus will start a tour in the United States to allow kids from different parts of the country to take a ride in it. The "Generation Beyond" project also includes an app on the phone for providing real-time information about weather reports for Mars, and there's also a free deep space class for middle school teachers and students.

Nature was Chen Rui's "childhood home". The 37-year-old researcher at the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Institute of Zoology was not able to talk until he was 4 years old because of the way his brain processes sensory (感官) information.

This made him "strange" in some people's minds. So, he didn't have friends who were around his age, which led him to turn his attention to nonhuman things around him. He became enraptured by the world of insects. "The happiest time of my childhood was in the farm fields," says Chen. "I squatted there, observing the actions of insects. I had so many questions about their activities and was full of curiosity about this world." These experiences planted a seed in his heart.

Many years later, he's an expert in life-science research. He has visited the Amazon rainforest several times, and has found around 100 new species (物种), many of which are named after him.

"I was a child who was ‘cured (治愈)' by nature," he says. "I wanted to grow up to share the power of nature with more young people and to popularize understanding of animals, including insects. I wanted to start classes to bring children to learn in the open air and experience the gifts nature gives." These led him to recently publish the popular science book, Du Chong Ji (Reading About Insects)

"Insects were the earliest creatures that could fly and feed themselves by farming. They have survived three mass extinctions (大规模灭绝). No other living things have won such victories." He hopes that people will learn and draw inspiration from the "superpowers" of insects and use it to improve their own lives.

A Once there was a forest where all the animals lived happily together.

One day a family went to spend the day in the forest, and the son left his socks there. After the family left, a bear came by, found the socks, and decided to try them on. They fit so well, and he liked them so much that he wouldn't take them off.

All the animals talked about the bear's new look. Soon, in that forest, there began appearing squirrels in shirts, rabbits in shoes, and even rats wearing hats! The forest doctor shook his head, telling animals, "This can't be good.    △    !" But no one listened to him. They said he was just out of fashion.

However, it wasn't long before the first results of fashion-fever came. Several times the squirrel caught his shirt on trees, stopping him in mid-jump and sending him falling to the ground from a tree. The rat couldn't go into his hole without taking off his hat first. Even the bear, because of his socks, slipped(滑倒)from the river rock and almost killed himself.

When the animals came to see the doctor, he gave them all the same advice, "Take off those clothes before one day they are going to kill you." Those who listened to the doctor's advice stopped having accidents. And the animals realized that they didn't need clothes at all. Starting to wear them had been very dangerous, and they had only done it to make others admire them, and to get attention.
