浙江省杭州市2017年中考英语模拟试卷(七)

阅读下列短文, 从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中选出最佳选项。

There were three big fish in the lake. One of them, Demo, was wise; another one, Jimmy, was half-wise; Martin, the third one, was stupid.

Some fishermen came to the bank of the lake with their nets. The three fish saw them.

Demo decided at once to leave, to make the long and difficult trip to the ocean. He thought, "I won't discuss with these two about this. They love this place so much that they call it home and will stay on. How silly they are! They still haven't realized we are in great danger now. Their ignorance will cost them their lives."

Seeing the wise fish had left, Jimmy thought, "My guide has gone and now I've lost my chance to escape." He felt sorry for it and then thought, "What can I do to save myself from these men and their nets? Perhaps I should pretend(假装)to be already dead, giving myself totally to the water." So he did that. He went up and down with the water, helpless, within arm's reach of the fishermen.

"Look at this! The best and biggest fish is dead." One of the men lifted him by the tail, and threw him up on the ground. He rolled(滚动)over and over and moved secretly toward the water, and then, back in.

The third fish was aimlessly jumping about, trying to escape with his speed and cleverness. The net, of course, finally closed around him, and as he lay in the hot frying-pan bed, he thought, "If I get out of this, I'll never live again in the limits of the lake. Next time, the ocean! I'll make it my home."

(1)、Demo thought that he could escape from the fishermen by _______.

A、staying in the lake B、pretending to be dead      C、jumping here and there D、traveling to the ocean

A、They will get away from the danger because of their carefulness. B、Some bad things will happen to their daily lives. C、They will die if they aren't intelligent and smart enough. D、Because of their ignorance, they will have happy lives.
(3)、Who was caught by the fishermen at last?

A、Demo B、Jimmy C、Martin D、Mario
(4)、We can read this passage in ______

A、a letter B、a story book C、a science book D、a poster
(5)、What can we learn from the passage?

A、It is important to make proper changes in time. B、Good chances are always given to the honest. C、The stupid can also succeed with great efforts. D、Where there is a will, there is a way.

People often think of the North Pole and the South Pole as similar frozen wastelands. They are both places with very cold temperatures and few people live there. However, the North and South Poles are not much alike as people may imagine.

The North Pole has no land, only thick ice. Temperatures seldom go above 32°F, at which water turns into ice. Most of the time, it stays below zero. In winter temperatures are usually as low as-30 F.

Although conditions were very poor, people tried for many centuries to reach the North Pole. More than 100 years ago, two men, Robert Peary and Mathew Henson, were able to get to this environment full of troubles and difficulties. They reached the North Pole on March 8th, 1909. It was really a hard trip for them.

There are few things more dangerous than crossing the Arctic on foot. People who stayed there may face many problems: very cold temperatures, sudden storms, and even hunger. Most of the area is uninhabited. Few people can live in such a difficult place.

People might think that with such low temperatures for most of the year, the ice would be thick and hard. However, this is not true in the Arctic. The movement of the ocean water under the ice may often cause many different changes on the surface. Sometimes the ice breaks into two opening lanes of water called "leads". Anyone who falls into a lead can be frozen to death in a few minutes.

 阅读下列短文,从每题 A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出一个能回答所提问题或完成所给句子的最佳答案

You don't have to be a scientist to solve big environmental problems. One Dutch designer is finding creative ways to make a change - and he's inviting bikers to join him.

Daan Ronscgaarde. 38, is a designer from Holland. He uses creative ideas to improve city life. For his Smog(雾霾)Free Project, he designed a special tower that cleans air in Chinese parks. In Holland, he designed a shining bicycle path.

Now Daan and his team are working with engineers at Chinese bike - sharing company Ofo to create a new product for public use. It's an air - cleaning machine connected to a bicycle and is part of the Smog Free Project. In smoggy weather, the machine would breathe in the air in front of the bike and blow out a stream of clean air toward the biker's face.

It's no secret that air pollution is a big problem for China. In winter, it's common for thick clouds of haze(霾), caused largely by factory production, burning of coal and car emissions(排放物) to cover areas of China.

In 2016, only one - fourth of Chinese cities met the country's air quality standards, according to a survey of 338 cities nationwide from the Ministry of Environmental Protection "

Of course one tower and a few bikes won't solve China's air pollution problem, " Daan said. " But smog - free bikes are an exciting idea that will hopefully inspire communities to create greener cities. "

 阅读短文,然后根据其内容从A、B、C、D中选出最佳选项。

One day in ancient Greece, King Hiero asked a crown maker to make him a golden crown. At first, he was very happy with it.

"It's a nice crown, isn't it?" he asked his men. Later,

However, he began to doubt that it was a real golden crown. "Is it made completely of gold?" he wondered. He sent it to Archimedes and asked him to find out the truth.

"This problem seems difficult to solve. What should I do?" thought Archimedes.

Archimedes was still thinking about this problem as he filled his bath with water. When he got into the bath, some water ran over.

"That's it!" shouted Archimedes. "I know how to solve the king's problem!"

Archimedes went straight to the palace to see the king. First, he weighed the crown and asked the king for some gold of the same weight.

Next, he put two pots into two big bowls and filled both pots with water. He put the gold into one pot, and some water ran into the bowl. Then he put the crown into the other pot. This time, even more water ran into the bowl.

"Look at this, " said Archimedes to King Hiero. "A crown made completely of gold displaces less water than a crown made of gold and another metal. This crown displaced more water than gold of the same weight, so I'm certain that it's not completely made of gold. "

"The crown maker tricked me, didn't he? What a bad man he is!" shouted King Hiero. He then sent the crown maker to prison.
