It was getting dark. Some children and two Canadian women were still skating near a big hotel. They {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (have) a great time.

    “A boy said to his friends,”I {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (not skate) on a real lake so far. It's wonderful! Look! I {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (fly)!" Suddenly the ice broke. One of the boys fell into the river. The children shouted, "Help! Help!" They didn't know what they  {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (do). The two Canadian friends heard them and skated over to help the boy.

    The ice were not thin enough. The two Canadians fell into the river too. But they tried their best {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (save) the little boy. They knew they were quick, or the boy would be frozen.

    Many guests from the hotel came over and {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (run) to help. The boy and the two Canadian women were out of water at last. One of the women {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (not feel) well. She {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (send) to hospital at once. She felt happy because the boy was safe.

    English is difficult {#blank#}1{#/blank#} （learn）because it is so different from our mother tongue（母语）. Also, we don't have much chance to speak English with foreigners or hear English {#blank#}2{#/blank#} （speak）.

    So the first important thing for us to do, I think, is to practise {#blank#}3{#/blank#} （speak）English more both in and out of class. In class I listen to the teacher {#blank#}4{#/blank#} （careful）and try my best to answer the teacher's questions in English. After class, I listen to the tapes and wonderful English {#blank#}5{#/blank#} （song）. I often retell the texts {#blank#}6{#/blank#} my own words. I always work {#blank#}7{#/blank#} （hard）at English and never give up.

    Of course this is not enough. When I find something {#blank#}8{#/blank#} （interest）, I write it {#blank#}9{#/blank#} in English. At first, I couldn't write well, but with the help of my teacher, I have {#blank#}10{#/blank#} （make）great progress.

    How does garlic(大蒜) grow? Hu Mengmeng, 13, had been thinking about this question for a while. Last term, Hu {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (get) her answer in her school's rooftop garden.

    Hu's school, Tangwai Junior High School in Shanghai, set up a small garden on its teaching building's rooftop in 2015. Each term, students {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (plant) one kind of vegetables. While taking care of them, they also do scientific experiments (实验) {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (learn) more about vegetables.

    Chen Yan, a 14-year-old girl, {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (study) in this school for one year. Last year, she started to plant garlic with her teacher s help. She wondered how sunshine affected the growth of garlic. She put three pots of garlic in different places to get different amounts of sunlight. Then, she watched their growth every day. Later, she found that the garlic which got the most sunlight {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (grow) best.

    The garden {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (turn) into a fun place two years ago. The students planted different types of vegetables in shapes, such as hearts, or squares in the garden. The different kinds of vegetables made the garden more colorful.

    And that is not the end. Next year, they {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (build) a robot to help with planting. "Students will work with our robot club to build more robots to help with watering," Mr. Zhou, the school's science teacher, said.
