Every society has {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (it) special words, expressions and ways of saying things. One of the popular expressions in the United States is "Hitting the books". It {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (mean) studying a subject with great effort(努力).

    One of the great challenges for students {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (be) taking tests. Students spend long hours {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (prepare) for a test. They read all their books carefully, and then read them {#blank#}5{#/blank#} second time and a third time. They prepare for every possible question. They study every night. They are "hitting the books."

    In the United States, most children go to school {#blank#}6{#/blank#} they are five years old. Public education is free and most children go to schools near their homes. School in these early years is fun. Children learn {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (read) and write, but they also play games and go on trips. There is no reason at such an early age for them to hit the books.

    This situation changes as children become older. The subjects become {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (difficult). Students must learn {#blank#}9{#/blank#} world history, algebra(代数) and life sciences. Tests become more common.

    Pressure is growing to hit the books, study hard, and advance(升级). {#blank#}10{#/blank#}, most students only really begin hitting the books for long hours when they reach high school.

Knowledge is a prize that is not easy to gain.

    Rose and Susan are classmates. Today Rose want to speak{#blank#}1{#/blank#}Susan, but Susan isn't in. Her mother answers(接) the{#blank#}2{#/blank#}, and she asks Susan to call Rose{#blank#}3{#/blank#}this evening. Rose and Susan want to{#blank#}4{#/blank#}to the Chinese Corner(汉语角).     I love travelling. In my first year of university, I started to travel during the holidays. During the Christmas holiday I went to Paris, and during the spring vacation, I {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (visit) Athens and many other cities in Italy. I was very excited {#blank#}2{#/blank#} this was the first time I had travelled aboard with just my friends. At first, I simply thought travelling as a way to have something to look forward to after exams, but I soon discovered how important it is {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (travel).

    On my travels I have the chance to experience new cultures through the art, history, language and food. Also, I have the chance to communicate {#blank#}4{#/blank#} people who have different opinions on life. Travelling is {#blank#}5{#/blank#} learning experience for both yourself and the people you meet. Some people I met during my travels had never heard of my home town and it was very exciting for me to tell {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (they) about it. When you travel you will meet people who have different cultural {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (background) and as a result, sometimes your own ideas and opinions might be challenged. It's important to learn to see {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (thing) from other people's perspectives.

    This is how I realized that travelling makes one appreciate home. When you see others have so little, you get to realize how {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (luck) you are! It makes you miss things at home. Not just the physical location of home, but also your way of life.

    Travelling is truly a(n) {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (value) experience and I am always excited about the discoveries in my next journey!

    For some teenagers, being an adult(成年人)is the coolest thing in the world. Adults don't do homework {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(and)take exams. They do what they like and make money. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}wonderful！But is it true？

    Last month, Grade 7 students at Sunshine School had a taste of the adult world. The teachers asked them {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(finish)a piece of special homework called" Working with your parents for one day".

    Wu Jing's mother works as {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(an)ticket collector in a park. At 6 a. m, the 14-year-old girl set {#blank#}5{#/blank#}for work with her mother. It was dark and cold.{#blank#}6{#/blank#}the park opened, they did some cleaning and prepared for the visitors' coming. When the visitors came, they greeted with a smile. After standing for the whole day, Wu was worn out.

    "She is {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(busy)and more tired than what I thought. I should help her more, "said Wu.

    Li Shiyi, 14, spent her day {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(help)in a car. Her father is a taxi driver. She had to pick calls and give change back. Li thought {#blank#}9{#/blank#}would be easy to sit in a car and tour the city. But soon she found that her father didn't even have time for lunch.

    "Now I know how hard it is to make money, "Li said." We {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(should) care for our parents more and never waste money."
