    Perhaps the only test score that I remembered is the 55 when I was in high school.

    The test was the final for a course. I remembered waiting anxiously as my teacher Mr. Right handed out our papers one by one. It was a rather 1 test. I heard my classmates groaning(叹息), and I could tell by the groans that the scores weren't looking2 .

    Mr. Right put my paper on my desk. There in big red numbers, circled to draw attention, was my score, 55!

    I walked home alone that day with the low but high score. My father knew that I had a big 6 that day and asked me as soon as I got home, “7 did you do in your test?”

    “I made a 55,” I said.

    A frown(皱眉) now stood on my father's face. I knew I had to8 at once. “But Dad, I had the highest score in the class, ” I 9  said. I thought that explanation would make a difference.

    “You 10 !” my father replied.

    “But it's the highest!” I 11.

    “I don't12 what scores others had, but you failed. What 13is what you do!” my father firmly said.

    For years, my father was 14 that way. It didn't matter what others did, it only mattered what I did and that I did it excellently.

    We often don't understand the 15 of good parents until we ourselves stand in the parents' shoes. My father's words have carried me throughout life.

One day when Picasso was walking along a road, a woman passed by and saw him. She ran to Picasso for a painting as a gift. Picasso smiled and said {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(polite), "I'm sorry, Madam. But the woman thought Picasso was just playing a joke on her. How could it be {#blank#}6{#/blank#}/wɜːθ/ a million dollars just in 10 seconds? So she went to the market and was {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(surprise) to learn that it was true.

When meeting Picasso again, she wished she could be his student. She said, "Please teach me so that I can do the same thing {#blank#}8{#/blank#} such a short time."

Picasso smiled and said, "Dear, the drawing I made was not in 10 seconds {#blank#}9{#/blank#} my thirty-year efforts towards the arts!" The woman was speechless.

We fix our eyes on others' {#blank#}10{#/blank#}/səkˈses/ more often than the hard work and patience behind it. If we want to reach it, we need experience and struggle(奋斗).

Daisy forgot to set the alarm clock (闹钟) so she had to run to catch the bus. This made her feel tired and rushed when she started her science test. After she handed in her test paper, she was certain that the test had not gone well. With a heavy heart, she left the classroom.

That afternoon, Daisy left school to work part-time at Beckman's. After she finished her work, Mrs. Beckman called her into the office. "Daisy," she said, "you have been a great worker. But business has been slow; we have to let you go."

Feeling down, Daisy left the office. As she walked slowly towards her aunt's house, she tried to think about the new hairstyle her aunt had promised her. When she arrived, Daisy showed her aunt a picture of the style she wanted.

"Well, you're done. What do you think?" Her aunt asked about an hour later.

What Daisy saw in the mirror left her speechless. It was nothing like the picture! How could she possibly go to school again?

The next morning, putting her things in her locker, she ran into Ms. Wilson, her science teacher.

"I know, Ms. Wilson, I did very poorly on the test. It's just that I forgot…"

"What are you talking about? Daisy, you did a great job!" Ms. Wilson said. "What I wanted to ask you is if you would be interested in working a few days a week after school as a lab assistant (助手). I need some help organizing all the materials." Daisy happily accepted.

"Daisy!" she heard as the rest of the students began to enter the building. "Where did you get your hair done?" She was so excited about her test and new job that she had completely forgotten about her hair.

"Wow! That is so cool!" she was told. She couldn't believe her ears. Everyone loved her hair.

What a couple of days it had been! Walking home, she smiled as the radio of a passing car played the song "What a Difference a Day Makes".

You don't have to be a scientist to solve big environmental problems. One Dutch designer is finding creative ways to make a change - and he's inviting bikers to join him. 

Daan Ronscgaarde. 38, is a designer from Holland. He uses creative ideas to improve city life. For his Smog（雾霾）Free Project, he designed a special tower that cleans air in Chinese parks. In Holland, he designed a shining bicycle path. 

Now Daan and his team are working with engineers at Chinese bike - sharing company Ofo to create a new product for public use. It's an air - cleaning machine connected to a bicycle and is part of the Smog Free Project. In smoggy weather, the machine would breathe in the air in front of the bike and blow out a stream of clean air toward the biker's face. 

It's no secret that air pollution is a big problem for China. In winter, it's common for thick clouds of haze（霾）, caused largely by factory production, burning of coal and car emissions（排放物） to cover areas of China. 

In 2016, only one - fourth of Chinese cities met the country's air quality standards, according to a survey of 338 cities nationwide from the Ministry of Environmental Protection " 

Of course one tower and a few bikes won't solve China's air pollution problem, " Daan said. " But smog - free bikes are an exciting idea that will hopefully inspire communities to create greener cities. "

There was a little kid studying in the 5th grade. Everyone in his class thought that he was one of the1 kids. His grades were so terrible that he himself thought the same. 

However, his poor progress didn't2 him as he cared nothing about studying but reading novels. He used to say to his mom, "Nothing matters except for reading." His mother was aware that her boy was not reaching his full potential (潜能) and decided to give him a way to do it. So, she set two rules for him. First, he was3 to watch TV shows or play outside only after finishing his homework. Second, while reading two books each week, he had to write a book report on each of them. 

The kid felt4 about these new rules and tried hard to talk his mother out of them. But his mother stood firm and the kid couldn't5 her. Before long, he saw the6 of his hard work, when he was the only one who knew the answer to a question the teacher asked the class. All his classmates and teachers, even the kid himself, felt surprised. The kid noticed that his7 came from books he was reading. He began to realize that he could8 his love for reading into learning. If he could learn just a few facts from books, he could learn anything. 

This was the way pointed out by the mother who knew what her boy was9 to do. The kid10 on his path of growth. Who was considered as the most stupid kid of class is now a world famous doctor, writer and politician.
