My mom only had one eye. I hated her. She was such an embarrassment.

    She ran a small shop at a flea （跳蚤） market and collected old clothes and some other things to sell for the money we needed. Once during elementary school, it was field day, and my mom came. I was so embarrassed and wondered how she could do this to me? I threw her a hateful look and ran out. The next day at school, my schoolmates laughed at me, "Your mom only has one eye!" I was so angry with my mom. So I said to my mom, "Why don't you have the other eye?" My mom said nothing.

    I hated my one-eyed mom. I told myself that I would become successful in the near future, so I studied very hard. Later, I got accepted by the Seoul University. I left my mom and came to Seoul to study. Then I got married there. Now I am living happily as a successful man. I enjoy the life in Seoul because it's a place that doesn't remind me of my mom and my past. This kind of happiness was getting bigger and bigger, until one day I saw my mom. She was still with her one eye. Even my daughter ran away, scared of my mom's eye. I screamed at her, "Who are you? I don't know you! How dare you come to my house and scare my daughter?" To this, my mom quietly answered, "Oh, I'm so sorry. I may have gotten the wrong address." Then she disappeared out of sight.

    One day, a letter about a school reunion （学校聚会） came. After the reunion, I went down to the old shack, which I used to call a house. There I found my mom fallen on the cold ground. Then a piece of paper in her hand came into my eyes. It was a letter to me.

My son,

    I'm so sorry that I only have one eye, and I was an embarrassment for you. When you were very little, you got into an accident and lost your eye. As a mom, I couldn't stand watching you having to grow up with only one eye. So I gave you mine. I was so proud of my son to see a whole new world for me with that eye. During the couple of times that you were angry with me, I thought to myself, it's because you love me. Don't cry for me because of my death. I love you so much."

    When Mr. David retired（退休）, he bought a small house in a village near the sea. He liked it and hoped to live a quiet life in it. But to his surprise, many visitors came to see his house in summer holidays, for it was the most interesting building in the village. From morning to night, there were visitors outside the house. They kept looking into the rooms through the windows and many of them even went into the house. He decided to drive the visitors away. So he put a notice on the window. The notice said, "If you want to satisfy your curiosity（好奇心）, come in and look around. Price twenty dollars. "Mr. David was sure that the visitors would stop coming, but he was wrong. More and more visitors came and Mr. David had to spend every day showing them around his house. "I came here to retire, not to work as a guide（导游）, "he said angrily. In the end, he sold the house and moved away.

    Lao She wrote Teahouse in 1957. The play shows audience life in China between 1898 and 1945. It takes place in a teahouse in old Beijing and it tells us the story of Wang Lifa and customers. It asks us to see the teahouse as the centre of the neighborhood. Finally, it says good bye to old Beijing and its people.

    The story starts in 1898 during the Qing Dynasty. It continues in 1916, and finally, it brings the audience to the end of the Anti­Japanese War, in 1945. After the war, Wang loses the teahouse and dies.

    Lao She was born in Beijing in 1899. His parents sent him to the Teacher's School in Beijing and he learned to teach. From 1924 to 1929 he taught Chinese to the English in London. He wrote many plays, novels and short stories. He was named a "People's Artist" and a "Great Master of Language". He was one of the greatest Chinese writers of the 20th century.

    In Lao She's Teahouse today, waiters bring tea to the customers and sell them delicious Chinese food. If you like Beijing Opera, folk music, acrobatics or magic shows, you can enjoy them in the teahouse. Lao She's Teahouse gives a wonderful welcome to everyone from China and from all over the world.

Chinese names are different(不同) from English names. In China, the family name is before(在… 之前) the given name. For example, my name is Li Daming. Li is my family name and Daming is my given name.

In the UK, people's names usually have three parts(部分):the first name, the middle name and the last name. The last name is the family name. The first name is the given name, and the middle name is the given name, too. For example, my friend is Jim Daniel Brown. Brown is his family name. His given name is Jim Daniel.

People use(使用) Mr. Or Ms. before the family name, but not before the given name. So you can say "Mr. Li" or "Mr. Brown", but you can't say "Mr. Daming" or "Mr. Jim".

Everyone needs friends. Friends can make us laugh and help us when we are unhappy. They are important to us. But how do we make friends and keep them? 

To make friends, you should be friendly. Smile and say hello to the people you meet. Be a good listener when they talk. Show that you care about their feelings. Share your interests with them, and you can find friends who like the same things as you. 

Keeping friends is also important. You should be truthful and kind. When your friends have problems help them. Be there for them, not only just when things are easy, but also when they are hard.

Sometimes friends could have fights. It's okay to have different ideas, but you should talk about it. Find a way to solve the problem together. Remember, a true friend can say sorry and understand you. 

In short, friends are a special part of our lives. They make us feel good and help us grow. Making and keeping friends is not always easy, but it is worth(值得)trying.
