April 22 is Earth Day. Everyone on Earth should care about and protect the earth!

The earth has warmed by about 1°F (华氏度) over the past 100 years, but why and how? Well, scientists are not quite sure. Maybe the earth gets warmer and warmer on its own. But many scientists say that people are doing many things which make the earth warmer. First, greenhouse effect (温室效应) is a very important reason for the change of the earth. People give out too much energy into the air every year. It makes the earth warmer. Climate (气候) change is another important reason. Sometimes it becomes too hot and sometimes too cold. Sometimes there is too much rain and sometimes too little. The change of the climate makes the earth warmer. In turn, the warmth of the earth changes the climate, too.

When the earth becomes warmer, there may be more rain and a rise in sea level. It will affect the growth of plants, animals and people. On a Pacific island, 100 people have to move to higher ground because the sea is rising. These people can no longer live on the coast. Before that, two islands without people went underwater in 1999. Scientists say that the seas can rise by nearly one meter by 2100.

People can affect the earth's air, land and water. As for us, we can do many things to protect the earth. For example, we can use fridges less. We can tell more people about protecting the earth.

    Life in the future will be very different from it is today. Between then and now many changes1place, but what will the changes be?

    The population is growing2. There will be more people in the world and most of them will live3than people do now.

    Computers will be4smaller and more useful, and there will be at5one in every home. And the computer study will be one of the most important 6in schools then.

    People will work fewer hours than they do now and they will have more free time7sports , watching TV and traveling.

    Traveling will be much easier and cheaper. And more people will go to 8countries for holidays.

    There will be changes in our work, too.9and hard work can be done by robots. Because of this, many people will not have work10. This will be a problem.

    The human brain weighs about 1.4 kilograms, but it can, hold much more information than most computers. However, there is another difference between humans and computers. Computers don't forget information they are given, but humans often do. No one remembers everything, and luckily we don't usually have to. But everyone can improve their memory if they want to. Here are some suggestions.

    Try to use new information immediately. For example, if you meet someone who says , “Hi! I'm Carlos,” don't just say “Hello.” Repeat the person's name. Say “__________________”

    Break a big number into smaller parts. For example, it's hard to memorize 109244153. But if you break it into three parts—109/244/153—it becomes easier.

    Write out what you need to remember over and over again. This will help you keep it in mind longer, especially for memorizing formulas (公式) or facts.

◆Always review information. If you bring what you've learned back to your mind, they become easier to remember. For example, before you go to sleep, it's a good idea to review the new things you learned that day.

    Discuss with a friend. It is always easier to remember things through discussions. You can have a discussion about what's right and what's wrong, and it will lead to the right answer.

    Never tell yourself that you have a bad memory. You can always do something to help improve your memory. And everyone's memory gets better if they use it often enough.

All of the suggestions are helpful. If you follow them, you are certain to improve your memory.

    One morning, Lillian was sitting in the garden.

    She was looking at the wonderful 1 of every colour. Her favourites were the big yellow sunflowers. They had 2 yellow faces.

    She 3 that the sunflowers turned their big heads towards the sun as it rose in the east. "Wow! That's why people call them sunflowers," she thought.

    "Do sunflowers 4 LOVE the sun?" she wondered.

    At noon, Lillian looked at the sunflowers again. 5 !The sun moved across the sky. And all the sunflowers turned their heads to 6 it as it moved.

    That evening, 7 the sun was setting(下山)，Lillian noticed that the sunflowers were all facing west- 8 the setting sun. Their faces turned again!

    The universe is really mystical(神秘的). Scientists have done lots of study about it but there is still much they haven't discovered.

    Scientists think that there 1 life on the earth for many many years. However, we haven't found life on any other planets 2

    There are eight planets going around the sun. The earth is one of them. There are humans, animals, plants and many other kinds of life on the earth. There is water and air, too. And compared to the other planets, the earth is not too 3 or too cold. None of seven other planets has av. environment like that of the earth.

    The sun and its planets are called the solar system, and our solar system is a small part of a 4 larger group of stars and planets, called the Galaxy or the Milky Way. There are 5 stars in the Galaxy, and our sun is only one of them.

    Scientists have also discovered many other galaxies in the universe. Their light has to travel for many years to reach us. So 6 is the universe? It is impossible to imagine.

    Scientists have sent spaceship to the planet Mars 7photos. They have even sent spaceships to travel outside 8 . However, no spaceship has traveled 9 to reach other stars in our Galaxy.

    When we see stars twinkling(闪耀) in the sky at night, we may think a lot:10 so many stars in the universe, is there life out there in space? If there is life on other planets, what life will be like there? What transports do they use to travel? Why don't they visit us? We do not know the answers…
