Henry was a kind, good boy. His father was dead, and his mother was very poor. He had a little sister about 2 years old. He wanted to help his mother because she could not a{#blank#}1{#/blank#} earn enough money to buy food for his little family.

    One day a man gave him a dollar for r{#blank#}2{#/blank#} the pocketbook which he had lost.Henry could have kept the pocketbook because no one saw him when he found it.     He was so p{#blank#}7{#/blank#} that gentlemen soon began to notice him, and to let him polish their boots.The first day he c{#blank#}8{#/blank#} over 50 cents, which he gave to his mother to buy food with. When he gave her the money, she cried with joy and said, “You are a{#blank#}9{#/blank#}, good boy, Henry. I didn't know how I could earn enough to buy bread, but now I think we can m{#blank#}10{#/blank#} to get along quite well.”

    Henry worked after school every day. He earned almost enough to support his mother and his little sister.

    It isn't hard to plant potatoes.

    First, you take a seed potato and cut it into four pieces. Be sure each piece has one or two eyes where it will begin to grow.

   ②    Third, plant each potato piece about four inches under the soil.

    Bikes and cars are two important (重要的) things. Many Chinese people have cars now, but most Chinese people still like to ride bikes. Do you know why?

    We all know that the bike can't go quickly, but it's easy for people to buy and ride it. As for the car, it needs too much money.

    Most Americans live far from the center of cities or their working places. So they need cars to go shopping or go to work every day. Most Chinese people live near their working places, so they don't need cars to go to work. And it's good for the environment (环境) if people stop driving. That's why it is “No­Car Day” on September 22nd every year.

    For me, I like to go to school by bike. It is easy and healthy.

    Guess what? I have a chance to choose my new place to live! I'm excited and a little nervous. Could you please give me some help?

    I'm not sure whether I should live in a house or in an apartment. On one hand, a house will be too big for just one person, so maybe I should rent an apartment. On the other hand, if I rent a house, I could find someone else to share with me. The only problem is that a house full of people might be too noisy for me. I prefer to have my own space. The city has some nice apartments, but they are also too expensive. However, if I could find a two-bedroom apartment and get a roommate, that would make it more affordable. I just need to search for a roommate who is neat and quiet. You know I can't live with someone who is loud and messy. I don't have a car, so I also need to think carefully about the location. I probably need to look for somewhere near a bus stop or an underground station. That way I will have more time to study and spend less time travelling.
