Two simple words "thank you" have made a big difference to thousands of firemen in New York City.

    Savannah is {#blank#}1{#/blank#} girl from Texas. "I was trying to think how I could help them out," she says. After {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (hear) about sacrifices (牺牲) made by firemen, she felt very {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (move) by me risks they face, {#blank#}4{#/blank#} Savannah made 200 thank-you cards for them, "l want to show how much I care about them."

    "I told the firemen thank you," Savannah recalls. "They're always there to help you."

    Savannah decided {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (keep) making cards. For the next seven months, she woke up early to paint and colour and cut. In that time, she {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (send) 1,600 cards with bite-sized candy while meeting her {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (hero). Soon, the fire station started thanking her.

    Once too shy to give a speech at school, {#blank#}8{#/blank#} is now easy for Savannah to speak regularly to firemen and school students. She is quite different {#blank#}9{#/blank#} what she used to be.

    "She's saying how {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (thank) she is for them!" Savannah's mom, Debbie, says, "Savannah sees that stepping out and doing something can really make a difference."

    Thomas Edison was an American inventor. When he was 7 years old, his mother had {#blank#}1{#/blank#} Appendectomy （阑尾切除术）. But it was too dark. So Edison put mirrors near oil lamps {#blank#}2{#/blank#}（light）up the room.

    The story is in a Chinese textbook for primary school students by People's Education Press. But the publisher（出版社）{#blank#}3{#/blank#}（recent）said it will cut out this story. That's because many people {#blank#}4{#/blank#}it's not true. Many believe that the world's first appendectomy was in 1886. But when Edison was 7, it was 1854.

    The publisher also said it will not use some other stories. For example, there's story about the first US President George Washington. The story says young Washington {#blank#}5{#/blank#}（cut）down a cherry tree in the yard of his house. But {#blank#}6{#/blank#}fact, there was no cherry tree in the area at that time.

    So what's the problem? Experts say that some editors care too {#blank#}7{#/blank#}about the educational meaning of a story and fail to check {#blank#}8{#/blank#}（one）if the story is true.

    The publisher says, in the future, they will pay greater attention to the {#blank#}9{#/blank#}（true）of the stories in the textbook. "We will invite experts（专家）{#blank#}10{#/blank#}check our stories," it said in a statement.
