Lily was a single mother who lived with her little son. She lost her job two years ago and they lived {#blank#}1{#/blank#} very hard life. Her heart was {#blank#}2{#/blank#}（break） every time her son asked, "Can I have some more bread, Mommy?"

One day, {#blank#}3{#/blank#}her son asked the same question again, she bought some food with her only 5 dollars and cooked a big meal for him at home. Lily was a shy mother, but she was strong -minded. She used to love writing, so she decided {#blank#}4{#/blank#}（write） some articles for magazines to make money.

Things went {#blank#}5{#/blank#}（well） than before. Thanks to some free {#blank#}6{#/blank#}（vegetable）provided by the local food bank, her son had more to eat. Once he told Lily that the dishes she made {#blank#}7{#/blank#}（be） very delicious. Suddenly, an idea came to Lily's mind, "Why not share my recipes（食谱） {#blank#}8{#/blank#} the Internet?" She did so. Many people liked her recipes and she became popular.

Soon after that, Lily wrote a book on {#blank#}9{#/blank#}（cook） and got much money from it. Finally, she had a good sleep for the {#blank#}10{#/blank#}（one） night during the two years. Now Lily lives happily, but she'll never forget the days when she worked hard for a good life.

Life is not easy to most people, so when anything happens, be sure to believe in yourself. When I was young, I was {#blank#}1{#/blank#} nervous that it was hard for me to talk to anyone. My classmates often {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (laugh) at me. Then I felt very frustrated. 

I was {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (real) sad but could do nothing. Later, something happened, which changed my life. It was {#blank#}4{#/blank#} English speech contest. My mother asked me to take part {#blank#}5{#/blank#} it. What a terrible idea! It meant I had to speak in front of all the teachers and students of my school!

"Come on, boy. You should believe in yourself. You are sure to win." mother said to me. 

Then, mother and I talked about many different topics. At last, I {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (choose) the topic "Believe in yourself". I tried my {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (good) to remember all the speech and practiced it over a hundred times. With my mother's great help, I felt {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (relax) and did well in the contest. I could hardly believe my ears when the news came that I had won the {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (one) prize. 

Since then, things have changed for me. No matter what I do, I try to tell {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (me) to be confident and I will find myself. This is true not only for me but also for everybody, I think.
