Zhu De was born {#blank#}1{#/blank#} December 1, 1886 to a poor farmer's family in a town in Yilong County, a {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (hill) and separate part of northern Sichuan Province. Of the fifteen {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (child) born to the family, only eight survived. His Hakka(客家) family migrated from Hunan Province and Guangdong Province {#blank#}4{#/blank#}Sichuan. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} his family was poor, by pooling(合伙经营) resources, Zhu was chosen to be sent to a regional private school in 1892. At the age of nine, Zhu was adopted by his wealthy uncle, {#blank#}6{#/blank#} political influence allowed him {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (gain) access to Yunnan Military Academy. Later, he attained the rank of Xiucai in 1906, {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (make) him qualified as a civil servant. He was admitted into a Sichuan high school around 1907, and graduated in 1908. Consequently, he returned to Yilong's primary school as a gym {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (instruct). He was an advocate(倡导者) of modern science and political teaching, rather than the strict classical education afforded by schools, so he {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (dismiss) from his post and entered the Yunnan Military Academy in Kunming. There, he joined the Beiyang Army and the Tongmenghui secret political society.

    Back in 1995, Jack Ma made his first trip to the US and used the Internet for the first time. After searching for “beer”, he saw that no results came up related {#blank#}1{#/blank#}China. When he then searched for “China” and still saw no results, he decided {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (set) up a Chinese website—the seed for Alibaba was sown.

    Ma {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(simple) wanted his company to have a {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(globe) and interesting name, and realized Alibaba was a story {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(know) across the world.

    The company{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(found) in 1999 and {#blank#}7{#/blank#} then has grown from 15 employees to over 30,000. Alibaba has directly and indirectly created 40 million jobs for China.

    Ma hopes to keep expanding Alibaba outside of China and is aiming for 2 billion {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(consume) and 10 million small businesses to use {#blank#}9{#/blank#}company outside of China.

    Ma became the richest man in China, when  the company he founded floated on the stock market last year with a value of around ＄140 billion—the {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (large) public offering in history.

    On October 23, 2018，President Xi Jinping announced the opening of  the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) at an opening ceremony in Zhuhai, Guangdong province.

    The HZMB, {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (locate) at the waters of the Lingdingyang of Pearl River Estuary, is a huge sea crossing, linking Hong Kong and Macao to the Chinese mainland city of Zhuhai. As the world's {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (long) sea-based project, the 55-kilometre bridge is the result of five years of research and another nine years of building. It has been described as one of the “seven {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (wonder) of the modern world” by the Guardian.

    The project{#blank#}4{#/blank#} (make) up of a 22.9-kilometer-long main bridge, a 6.7-kilometer-long tunnel and an artificial island off the bridge. It is designed with {#blank#}5{#/blank#} service life of 120 years. It can withstand a strong wind equal {#blank#}6{#/blank#} a maximum Beaufort scale 16. The bridge's engineers had to consider many environmental factors to protect the {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (surround) environment while building the bridge. Chinese white dolphins, an endangered species that lives in the area, {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (be) a particular concern.

    The HZMB will make {#blank#}9{#/blank#} much more convenient to travel between the three areas it connects. It will bring people in Hong Kong, Macao and Guangdong within a “one-hour living circle”, {#blank#}10{#/blank#}is expected to attract more visitors to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It will be a transport link as well as a social, economic, cultural, and tourism connection among the three areas.

    Some people think that the great Chinese scholar Confucius, {#blank#}7{#/blank#} lived from roughly 551 to 479 B.C., influenced the {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (develop) of chopsticks. Confucius believed knives would remind people of killings and {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (be) too violent for use at the table.

    Chopsticks are not used everywhere in Asia. In India, for example, most people traditionally eat {#blank#}10{#/blank#} their hands.
