It was Friday afternoon. The students were having the last1 of this week. At the end of the class, the teacher2 the students to bring some tomatoes in a bag to school the next Monday. "And you should give each tomato a3 of the person you don't like. If you don't like five persons, you should bring five tomatoes. "the teacher said. 

The students didn't know why, but they felt glad4 they didn't need to do homework at the weekend. On Monday, all the students brought tomatoes. Some had two, some had six, and some5 had twenty in their bags. 

The teacher said, "This week, all of you have to6 these bags with you, anywhere you go for the whole week. "The students7 happily. Then it was Friday again. The tomatoes smelt8 as they already lost their freshness. "How did you9 this week?" the teacher asked. All the students complained about (抱怨) the smell. Some also talked about the heavy weight (重量) of their bags because they carried10 tomatoes. 

The teacher smiled and said, "These tomatoes are similar (相似的) to what you carry in your 11 . When you don't like someone, you carry that hatred (厌恶) everywhere and it makes your heart12 . You can't stand the13 and weight of these tomatoes for a week. Then how can your heart stand14 feelings when you carry them every day?"

The students looked at their tomatoes and15 the teacher's words. They decided to forgive (原谅) those who had hurt them and only keep good things in mind. 

One day, a colt(雄马驹) took a bag of wheat to the mill. As he was running with the bag on his back, he came to {#blank#}1{#/blank#}small river. The colt didn't know how deep the river was. He looked around {#blank#}2{#/blank#}saw a cow eating grass nearby. He asked, "Aunt Cow, could you please tell me if I can cross the river?" The cow told him that he could cross the river {#blank#}3{#/blank#}it was not very deep, just knee high.

While the colt {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(cross) the river, a squirrel jumped down a tree and stopped him.

The squirrel shouted, "Colt, stop! You'll drown(溺死)! One of my {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(friend)drowned just yesterday in the river." Not knowing what to do, the colt went home {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(ask)his mom.

He told his mom his experience along the way. His mother said, "My child, don't always listen {#blank#}7{#/blank#}others. You'd better go and try {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(you). Then you'll know what to do."

Later, at the river, the squirrel stopped him again, "Little horse, it's too {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(danger)!"

"No, I want to have a try," answered the colt. Then he crossed the river {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(careful).

On the other side of the river, the colt realized that the river was neither as shallow as the cow said nor as deep as the squirrel told him.

You see, real knowledge comes from practice.

One day, Mr Smith goes to a dinner party. His clothes are very 1 . He comes into the room. There are many people in the room, 2 no one looks at him. And no one asks him to 3 at the table. He isn't 4 . But he doesn't say 5 . 

Mr Smith runs home very 6 and soon he puts on his best clothes. Then he goes back to the party. All people in the room 7 and look at him. They give 8 good food to eat. Mr Smith takes off (脱掉) his coat, and puts it on the 9 and said, "Eat, coat! It's time 10 you to have dinner." The other people are surprised (感到吃惊的) and 11 , "What are you doing? 12 do you do that?" 

Mr Smith says, "I am asking my 13 to eat food. When my clothes are old, you don't look at me. But after I 14 my nice clothes, and you give me good food. You shouldn't judge a man by his 15 !"

The sun is shining and the birds are singing around. On such a 1 morning, a UFO lands in a forest. A boy called Bill is just watching it behind a tree. 

Suddenly, a tall alien* comes out of the UFO. He wears a silver suit and starts picking up 2 . One by one, he takes photos of them with a camera. When he finishes, he puts the flowers into a large box.

The alien thinks he sees something move and asks, "Is anybody there?" Bill doesn't answer. 

The alien 3 the looker and sees the boy behind the trees. "Oh, there is someone. Hello!" the alien says, "It's all right. You can come closer." 

"What are you doing?" Bill asks. 

"I'm 4 flowers," the alien says.

"Flowers? For what?" asks Bill.

"I'm going to take them back to my planet*," says the alien. 

"Aren't there any flowers on 5 ?" asks Bill.

"No, our planet doesn't have flowers for a long time." The alien says 6 , "We have too much litter, we cut down too many trees, 7 now it's like a desert*. There is almost no water any more. All of the flowers and trees that lived on our planet are gone." 

"That's terrible," says Jim "Is anyone doing 8 about it?" 

"Yes ... That's 9 I'm here and we want to find plants from other planets. We use them to learn about water. I believe someday water will come back to our planet." 

"Wow," Bill said. "What's the name of your planet?"

It's called Rozul," the alien says, "Long ago, it was very beautiful. If we work hard, someday Rozul will be 10 again." And then the alien goes back to the UFO. Bill says goodbye as the UFO slowly goes up into the air and flies away.

It was a hot summer night. Rachel was lying on her bed, sleepless.

" Rachel ," Grandma whispered." Get up. I have something to1 you."

 Rachel rolled over." What is it ?"

" Just 2 your shoes and come with me ," Grandma said.

 Hand in hand, 3 walked down the stairs and crossed the kitchen. Rachel shut the door softly, 4 she wouldn't wake her parents up.

 Today, Rachel and her parents drove two hours to New York City to visit her sister, Claire, at sleepaway camp. Then they drove to' Uramdma's house in this quiet country. No matter how Rachel had begged her parents. to let hei go to the 5 with Claıre, they disagreed. Rachel6 her sister so much that she wasn't in the mood(心情) to do anything.

 Outside, it was so dark. Grandma turned on a flashlight and started walking. Her shoes madea shh - shh sound in the grass .

" Where are we going ?" Rachel asked a little 7 , with her hands holding Grandma's tightly(紧紧地).

" You' ll see." said Grandma.

 They reached the edge of the woods behind the house. Grandma smiled at Rachel, then stepped into the forest. Some 8 appeared out of the darkness.

" What are they ?" Rachel asked.

" They' re little fireflies." said Grandma.

 They followed the lights deeper into the woods. 9 , they arrived at a clearing (林中空地) , and Grandma turned off her flashlight. Fireflies were 10 .

" They' re talking to one another," Grandma said." They talk 11 light."

" What are they saying?" Rachel asked.

"I really don't know," Grandma said." It's a secret language. Spend enough time with them , and maybe you'll find it out."

 For a long while, Rachel watched the lights. She 12 this clearing was the situyupway camp. She and her sister were two of the fireflies. They were flashing each other 13 , telling each other secrets. They are connected .

 Walking back to Grandma's house, Rachel wasn't 14 at all. She asked Grandma15 they could do that the next day. She gave her a big smile.
