It is fun being a vet (兽医). I like it because although it is hard work, every day is different! It all depends on what is wrong with the animals that come in.

    At my clinic(诊所), I work long days on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and short days on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Sunday is my day off so I can spend some time with my family.

    My day at my clinic begins at 7 am. My clerk opens the door, turns on some music, and makes everyone a cup of tea or coffee. My assistant (助手) cleans and feeds the animals. The phones start to ring and people make appointments. This is a very busy time of day!

    At 9 am, pet owners start to arrive with their sick pets. Appointments take up the whole morning. At midday, I stop for two hours. I don't examine（检查）any new sick animals. I use these two hours to have lunch and do all my paperwork.

    At 2 pm. I start to see sick animals again. At 5 pm, three students from a local school who love animals arrive to help out. They are very kind and warm-hearted. I am always happy to see their smiling faces!

From 5 pm to 7pm, I continue to see sick animals. Then, at 7 pm, we close our doors and the clean-up begins! We tidy the clinic, and feed and clean the animals. Of course, we also stroke (轻抚) them and give them hugs! Then, we turn off the lights and go home. This is the type of day I want to have.

    I'm very happy being a vet, though unexpected things sometimes happen!

    An ancient bus stopped by a dry river bed and a lot of famous actors and actress got off. Dressed in dark glasses and old clothes, they had taken special things done to avoid possible fans gathering so that no one shod know them. But they soon discovered that the action making themselves unknown can sometimes be too perfect.

    “This is a wonderful place for a picnic,” said Gloria Gleam.

    “It couldn't be better, Gloria,” Brinksley Meers agreed. “No newspaper men, no film fans! Why don't we come more often?”

    Meanwhile, two other actors, Rockwall Slinger and Merlin Greeves, had carried two large food baskets to a right place under some trees. When they had all made themselves comfortable, a stranger appeared. He seemed to see red. “Now you get out of here, all of you!” he shouted. “I'm sheriff(司法长官) here. Do you see that notice? It says 'No Camping' -- in case you can't read!”

    “Look, sheriff,” said Rockwall. “Don't be too hard on us. I'm Rockwall Slinger and this is Merlin Greeves.”

    “Oh, is it?” said the sheriff with a smile as if we were fools. “Well,   (5)   , and my other name is Gloria Gleam. Now you get out of here fast!”

   "Oh" said the manager. "Who?"

   "The person who sold you a thousand boxes of the sweets."

    A farmer had a cow. He took very good care of his cow. One day it was ill, the farmer was very worried. He telephoned the vet.

    "What's the problem?" the vet asked the farmer when he arrived. "My cow is ill," said the farmer, "I don't know what's the matter with her. She's lying down and doesn't eat. She's making a strange noise." The vet looked at the cow. "She's certainly ill," he said, "and she needs to take some strong medicine." He took a bottle out of his box, put two pills into his hand and said, "Give her these. The pills should make her better." "How should I give them to her? The farmer asked. The vet gave him a tube(管子) and said, "Put this tube in her mouth, then put the pills in the tube and blow. That'll make it."

    The next day the vet came to the farm again. The farmer was sitting outside his house and looked worried. "How's your cow?" asked the vet. "No change," the farmer said, "and I'm feeling very strange myself."

    "Oh?" the vet said, "Why?"

    "I did what you said." the farmer answered, "I put the tube in the cow's mouth and then put the two pills in it."

    "And?" the vet asked.

    "The cow blew first." the farmer said.

It's Father Monkey's birthday. "How about making a(n)1 cake for your dad?" Mother Monkey asks. 

"That's 2 . Dad likes fruit cake, " Baby Monkey says. 

"3 we need some bananas and eggs. Can you 4 some?" Mother Monkey asks. 

"OK!" Baby Monkey says and leaves home. 

First, Baby Monkey 5 a banana tree. "Wow, the bananas look 6 . Let me get four, " he says. 

"Stop!" Mr Gorilla calls. 

"Sorry! I 7 to make a banana cake. Can you give me some bananas?" Baby Monkey asks. 

"Can I 8 some pieces of cake?" Mr Gorilla asks. 

Baby Monkey says 9 with a smile on his face, "Sure!" So Mr Gorilla gives him four bananas. Then Baby Monkey sees some 10 and wants to take some. At this time, Ms Hen calls, " Hey! Those are11 . "

"Sorry. Can I have five for a birthday cake?" Baby Monkey asks. 

"Can I have your cake?" Ms Hen asks. " Yes!" Baby Monkey says and takes five eggs. 

In the evening, the 12 "friends" come to Baby Monkey's home. Mr Gorilla asks, "13 is the cake?" " We gave Baby

Monkey bananas and eggs, " Ms Hen says. "Haha! Now we can have a 14 !" Father Monkey says. Then they 15 the Happy Birthday song and have the birthday cake together. All of them had a great time at the party. It's really a great birthday for Father Monkey.
