Bridges are built for many reasons. Some bridges are built so that cars{#blank#}1{#/blank#} (cross) over rivers. Others are made for trains to use . In Washington State, there is a very unusual bridge. It was built for squirrels(松鼠) 。

 The town of Longview has a very busy street. Many cars pass it every day. When squirrels tried to cross the street, they {#blank#}2{#/blank#}  (kill) . Amos Peters wanted {#blank#}3{#/blank#}  (protect) these small and lovely animals, so he built a bridge for them——one that would let them pass above the traffic.

 The bridge {#blank#}4{#/blank#}    (be)  a symbol of the town for over 40 years since then. And every Christmas, the local people  {#blank#}5{#/blank#}   (add) a small Christmas tree to the center of the bridge .How lovely!　　

 A few years ago, the local people {#blank#}6{#/blank#}   (create) a squirrel festival and they raised money {#blank#}7{#/blank#}  (build)  two more bridges for these lovely animals. For years, because of the bridges . the squirrels in the town have been able to cross safely from one side of the street to the other.

    I packed, and was ready to leave for my two-day trip. I had been busy with my work. I had made p{#blank#}1{#/blank#} for the trip for the last few days， and I expected to get r{#blank#}2{#/blank#} for several days. As I got into the car to leave, my mind flew to my kids.

    How to keep in touch with your kids when you're busy or far away is a dilemma(两难的问题) many fathers have. Men like to focus special attention on one thing for a long p{#blank#}3{#/blank#}, but this can lead to trouble. Moving from work to family isn't always an easy thing. And if you don't s{#blank#}4{#/blank#} your kids that you're thinking about them, they may think that you don't care.

    As I started down the road, I suddenly stopped to t{#blank#}5{#/blank#} back to my house and wrote a short message on a c{#blank#}6{#/blank#} of cards to each of my children. I put each in a “secret” place where I knew they'd find it. When I called the next night， they both said e{#blank#}7{#/blank#}, “Daddy, I got your card. When did you do that?”

    I was moved when I heard these words. What I had never thought was that a small thing had a big influence on my kids. It proved(证明) that they were in my heart. And distance (距离) couldn't s{#blank#}8{#/blank#} them from their father. To my satisfaction， they feel “love” of their father. This v{#blank#}9{#/blank#} experience encouraged me to continue to do the small things to be a responsible father.

    As fathers get much busier and have to work longer hours, they usually pay l{#blank#}10{#/blank#} attention to the small things. Don't miss the good chances to let your kids see how important they are.

    Take a moment to do a small thing for your kids. It won't s{#blank#}11{#/blank#} small to them.

    It was a fine day in autumn. Some girls and boys were out {#blank#}1{#/blank#} their teacher. They {#blank#}2{#/blank#} to a museum. On their way to cross a bridge, they suddenly(突然地) heard a loud shout behind {#blank#}3{#/blank#}. The teacher told her pupils{#blank#}4{#/blank#} . Then she turned and listened. When she heard the cry“Mad dog!”she knew what was happening. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} she could do anything, she saw a dog running to them.“{#blank#}6{#/blank#}”said the teacher, “keep close to each other. Don't move or cry.” Then she stood before the children so that the dog would meet her first. The animal came quickly.

    At this moment the teacher saw a man. He ran up with a gun(枪) in his {#blank#}7{#/blank#}. “The children must be kept safe {#blank#}8{#/blank#} the man comes.” Thought the lady. The teacher ran to the dog, facing it bravely. The mad dog snapped(猛咬) at her and she fell down. The man came and killed the animal. The dog had bitten her so {#blank#}9{#/blank#} that the brave lady died soon after the doctors arrived. She lost her life for her {#blank#}10{#/blank#}. When people heard of this, they said, “The brave lady will always be remembered among us!”

    Reading books is a good hobby for all kinds of reasons.

    First, reading books is f{#blank#}1{#/blank#} You can always keep yourself interested and help you to have an enjoyable time if you like reading.It is a relaxing hobby too.You can really become lost in a book.

    Next, you can read a book a{#blank#}2{#/blank#} : in a car, in a waiting-room, on a plane, in bed — even in the bath.All you n{#blank#}3{#/blank#} is a book! Reading is a convenient hobby as it is easy to stop and then s{#blank#}4{#/blank#} again.
