Years ago, I lived in a building in a town. There was another building across from mine, and it was only a few metres away. There lived a woman whom I had never met. I could see her sit by the window each afternoon, drinking or reading.
Several months later, I noticed her window was very dirty. Everything was not clear through the window. I wondered why the woman didn't wash her window.
One sunny morning, I decided to clean up my apartment, including washing my windows. Late in the afternoon when I finished the cleaning, I sat down for a rest by the window. What a surprise! The woman sitting by her window was clearly seen! Her window was clean! Suddenly, I realized I had made a mistake. I was watching her through my dirty window all the time!
That was quite an important lesson for me. Since then, whenever I wanted to judge (判断) someone, I asked myself first, "Am I looking at him through the dirty window of my heart? ”Then I try to clean the window of my own world so that I may see the world clearly.

Good and bad manners(礼仪) make up the social rules of a country.They are not always easy to learn because they are often not written in books.Let's see some social rules in Britain.

In the past,most British women didn't go to pubs(酒吧) because it was not considered good behavior for a woman.Now both women and men can drink freely in pubs.

Visitors to Britain often see British people wait in line in public places.It is considered impolite to get on a bus without waiting your turn in line.And if you don't wait your turn,the other people in line will probably warn you to line up loudly.

In some countries it is considered bad manners to eat in the street.However,in Britain it is common to see people having a snack while walking down the road.

British people used to be surprised to see young children in restaurants in the evening because children were not usually taken out to restaurants at night.These days children are playing a more active role and they are now accepted in many restaurants at night.

In recent years,many British companies have banned smoking in their offices and even in the whole buildings.Smoking is also banned on the London Underground,in cinemas and theaters and on most buses.It can be seen less and less in public places.It is also considered bad manners to smoke in someone's house without asking the owner.

Social rules are an important part of every country.The British have an expression for these"unwritten rules":When in Rome,do as the Romans do.

 阅读下面短文,掌握其大意,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

Martin is my youngest son. He likes staying alone and he seldom laughs. As the boy's mother,I was 1 about him. I took him to see the doctors in many 2 , but it didn't work well.Nothing could make him happy but the recycling truck(垃圾回收车) passing by my house. Every afternoon, he raced to the front of the house, 3 for the truck.

When we were late and 4 the truck, Martin would be very disappointed. One day, I stopped the truck and 5 myself.

"Nice to meet you, too. I'm Vince."The driver greeted me in a happy voice.

"Your coming is the most 6 moment for my son,"I smiled.

After knowing our story, he said,"Can you give me your phone number? Maybe I can send you a 7 before I arrive."I exchanged my number with him at once.

Then began our 8 with Vince.

Recently, I said to him,"It's my little boy's birthday tomorrow. Could you please do 9 special for him?"

The next day, as I was standing 10 the road with Martin, we saw the green truck running down the street with a loud beep(嘟嘟声). Like a superman in a movie, Vince stopped and walked towards us with a box in his hand.

"Today is your birthday, Martin, and here's a 11 ."

He handed the box to my son. Inside, there was a green model truck like 12 . My son,surprised, looked up happily and 13 him.

After chatting for several minutes, he was about to leave for work. I tried to give him some money for his help. He kept 14 his head and refused my money, saying"Today you,tomorrow me."

I was deeply 15 by these simple words. And I have been ready to help others whenever I can. You will never know when you're going to be the one that needs help.

 阅读下列短文, 从每小题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。

Joe is an American. When Joe was born, he had a problem with his heart and doctors had to perform an operation(手术) on him. When he was 3, Joe had his second operation. This operation didn't go well and he even couldn't move the left side of his body. The doctors at the hospital didn't think he could get better. Then the family moved to Florida.

Joe liked being in the water and his mother thought swimming could help him. First, they went to swimming pools in hotels, but some hotel guests didn't like them being there. Then one day she went with Joe to a place called Dolphin Plus, where people swam with dolphins. Joe met Fonzie, a 3-meter-long, 275 kilogram dolphin there and the story really began.

Soon, Joe was eager to see Fonzie every day. He loved playing with him and feeding him. Every time Joe arrived, Fonzie came to see him right away. Joe's mother told him always to feed Fonzie using his left hand, so Joe used his left side more and more. Slowly, he got better and better.

Joe's mother saw that Fonzie helped him a lot, and she knew it was a good idea for other people, too. So, she and her family worked to open a place called Island Dolphin Care. It's next to Dolphin Plus and many people with health problems come to spend time with the dolphins.

Joe is now over 30 years old and very well. However, Fonzie died in 2004 when Joe was 17. Joe wrote:"Fonzie was a great friend to me; he and I shared a lot of good times. He always put a smile on my face when I was feeling down."
