A long time ago, there was a seed(种子). Because he was only a seed,1 noticed him. So the seed thought he was not important in the world.

One day,a wind2 and threw him on an open field in the sun. Later, he was given rain. Years later, another day he saw a traveller3  by his side.

“Thank you God for this, I can have a rest under the tree.”the traveller said.

“what are you talking about?”the seed4asked. He thought the man was5him. No one ever spoke to him like that.

“Who just spoke?" the shocked man asked.

“It's me. A seed.”

The man looked at the6. “Are you joking? You're not a seed. You are a big tree!”

“Really?"

“Yes! People often sit here. 7do you think people come here for? To fee1 your shade (树荫)! Don't tell me you didn't know you had grown over time.”  

The traveller's words brought him pride. The seed thought and 8 for the first time in his life. The years of tortune (折磨)9 the sun and the rain finally helped him10 “Oh! That means I'm not a little seed any more! I was actually born to make people feel comfortable. Wow! That's great.”

Some of my earliest memories include sitting with my dad in his study every night when he came home from the office. I watched1 he put his personal items away: his watch, wallet, comb and car keys. They would always take up the same space on the table every time.

Dad's comb was jade green. I heard he bought it when he married Mum. Every night, he would smile, hand me the comb and say, "Be a good girl and help Daddy 2 it, OK?"

I was more than happy to do it. At age five, this kind of task brought me such joy. I would turn on the tap 3 , and then brush the comb with a used toothbrush as hard as I could.4 that I'd done a good job, I would proudly return the comb to Dad. He would smile at me, and place the comb on top of his wallet.

About two years later, Dad left his sales job and started his own wholesale business. I started primary school. That was when things started to 5 . Dad's business wasn't doing so well, and our stable (稳定的) life started getting shaky. He didn't come home as much as he used to. And when he did come home, it was always late and I'd already be in bed. I started to get 6 . Why didn't he listen to Mum and just stick to his old job? Why does he 7 placing the whole family in trouble? Over the years, I 8 waiting for him to come home, and going downstairs to welcome him.

Now 28, I've graduated from college and got a job. Dad's business has also started to get back on track. Yet the uncomfortable 9 between Dad and me went on.

Two days before my birthday last year, Dad came home early. On that evening, I helped him carry his bags into his study 10 . When I turned to leave, he asked me to clean his comb. I looked at him for a while, then took the comb and headed to the tap.

It was a 11 comb. This one was brown. I hadn't noticed that he'd changed it. After cleaning it, I passed it back to Dad. He looked at it and smiled. But this time, I noticed something 12 . My dad had aged. He had wrinkles next to his eyes when he smiled, yet his smile was still as heartwarming as before.

Most people in China know that Confucius（孔子）was a famous thinker and educator in ancient China. However, few people know that he was also an excellent musician, too. He could play many musical instruments, compose（作曲）and sing without {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (difficult). Confucius once learned to play Guqin（古琴）from Shi Xiangzi who was a very famous musician at that time. Shi Xiangzi {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (teach) him a piece of music and told him to practise it by himself. After ten days' hard work, Confucius wouldn't stop {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (practise) the music. The teacher said to him, "You've played it {#blank#}4{#/blank#} well that you may learn something new now." But Confucius thought he hadn't learnt all the skills and couldn't {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (complete) understand the feelings in the music, so he continued to practise it. After some time, Confucius told his teacher happily, "I could imagine {#blank#}6{#/blank#} the composer looked like. He might be a tall and strong leader {#blank#}7{#/blank#} bright and deep eyes. This is the appearance of an Emperor. The composer must be Emperor Wen of the Zhou Dynasty（周文王）,isn't  {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (him)?" Shi Xiangzi was very {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (surprise) to hear that. In fact, the music {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (produce) by Emperor Wen.

Should friends be different or the same? Different people have different ideas. The following is what four of my classmates say.

My name is Claire. I am outgoing. I like to have friends who are similar to me. Both my best friend Linda and I like traveling. We went to Italy with our families last summer vacation. We stayed there for two weeks. Next year we want to go to Paris.

My name is Mary. I like to have friends who are different from me. My best friend Betty is shorter and more outgoing than me. I am quiet and I like reading very much. Betty likes sports and she plays badminton well.

I'm Peter. I like to have friends who are like me. It can be very helpful. I'm a little quiet and my good friend Rick is quiet, too. Sometimes I don't know what to do with my problems and he can tell me what I should do, because he knows about me better than people who are different from me.

I'm Bill. I have both kinds of friends. I think it is important. That makes my life more interesting.
