George Mallory was an English school teacher who loved climbing. In 1924, Mallory and a team of British1tried to get to the top of Mount Qomolangma, 2mountain in the world. No one had ever done it before.

    Mallory had already tried to3the top of Mount Qomolangma in 1921 and 1922, but he had4both times. In 1924, he tried again. On June 8, 1924, he and 5climber, Andrew Irvine, were only a few6meters from the top of the mountain. The other members of their7team watched as Mallory and Irvine climbed slowly up towards the top. However, the weather was very misty, and soon the two men8into the mist. They could never9.

    In 1953, Edmund Hillary10New Zealand, and Tenzing Norgay from Nepal, finally reached the top of Mount Qomolangma. Most people thought that they were11to do this, but some people12whether Mallory and Irvine had got there first.

    Many years later, in 1999, Mallory's body13on Mount Qomolangma, about six hundred meters from the top of it. However, it is still not known14he and Irvine ever reached the top of the mountain or not.

    Someone had once asked Malory why he wanted to climb15mountain in the world. "Because it's there," he answered.

    My life is always filled with sadness and little joy. However, no matter what happens, I can always face it bravely.

    Last year, I couldn't believe the1that I was allowed to enter the only key high school in my hometown. Then I rushed to my home and told my parents. But my father didn't seem as2as I was.  He just kept smoking without saying a word and my mother put her head down and couldn't help3.

    I knew very well what my family was4. My mum had been ill in bed for 2 years.  We lived a hard life and I couldn't continue my schooling.  I felt so upset but I could say5to my parents. I decided to help my father with his work6my family.

    To my surprise, things completely changed7the beginning of the new term. My head teacher came to my family with some money, which had been8by my schoolmates. He encouraged me," Always have a dream. " With tears in my eyes, I stepped into the key high school.

    I have been studying hard since I entered the high school.  Whenever I meet difficulties, I always9my teacher and schoolmates. I have a college dream and I must work hard for it, no matter10hard life is. Just as a great man says, "When one door shuts, another opens in life."

    It may be difficult to start high school. Thinking about making new friends might make you feel nervous.{#blank#}1{#/blank#}You are going to school with a group of students of your age. Here are several suggestions for you to follow.

    Forget your fear and just talk to someone. It's easier said than done. But try to take a deep breath and find your voice. Don't be afraid to approach (接近) people.{#blank#}2{#/blank#}Sit in the middle of the classroom with as many new friends around you as possible.

    {#blank#}3{#/blank#}Take part in after-class activities that interest you. Try to make friends in the clubs. If you don't join anything, you will be just going to class and then going home. Being in a club makes you more social.

    Stay clean. No one likes a bad smell that could knock someone over. Shower every day, brush your teeth and wash your hair.{#blank#}4{#/blank#}

    Be respectful (尊重的) of people's differences.{#blank#}5{#/blank#}And everyone believes in different things. It is a good thing to have different friends with different opinions because you can each share your own.

Dorothy lived with her uncle Henry and aunt Em who were both farmers.Their house had only four walls，a floor and a small space under the floor to protect them from powerful winds.The house was in the middle of poor land with strong sunlight and few plants.Aunt Em used to be young and cheerful，but the sun and wind had taken away her happiness.Uncle Henry also looked serious and strict.Only Toto，could bring laughter into Dorothy's life.

One day，they heard low sounds of wind from both the north and the south.Uncle Henry realized a strong wind was coming.He rushed to protect the animals while Aunt Em hurried Dorothy to the basement.Suddenly，the house began to rock and rise to the air.In the center，but Dorothy found herself riding safely on the rising house.

Frightened，Toto ran around the room until Dorothy caught him and protected him from falling through the open door.She closed it carefully to avoid further danger.As hours passed，Dorothy slowly got over her fear.She finally fell asleep on her bed with Toto by her side.The wind had set Dorothy's house down gently in a beautiful country.

As she looked around, she saw green grass, fruitful trees, and colourful flowers.Birds with special feathers sang and flew around.As she stood enjoying the beautiful views, a group of strangely dressed people came near. They wore round hats that rose to a small point a foot above their heads. Three men were dressed in blue, and a little woman wore a white dress. They stopped and discussed in a low voice, as if afraid to come farther.
