And I have to be in bed by ten o'clock.{#blank#}5{#/blank#} weekends, I have to {#blank#}6{#/blank#} my room and wash my clothes.     A professor(教授) told his students to go into the city slums(贫民窟) to study the life of 200 boys. He asked them to write reports about each boy's life and future. One of the students wrote, “They don't have {#blank#}1{#/blank#} hope．”

    Twenty-five years later，{#blank#}2{#/blank#} professor read about the earlier study. He told his students to find out {#blank#}3{#/blank#} had happened to the boys. They tried very hard and {#blank#}4{#/blank#} that 176 of the boys had become successful as doctors, teachers and scientists.

    The professor was very surprised and {#blank#}5{#/blank#} to study it further．Luckily, all of them were living near the place and he was able to ask each one, “What made you successful? ” Each one answered, “It was a {#blank#}6{#/blank#} . ”

    The teacher was {#blank#}7{#/blank#} living there, so the professor found her and asked the old woman what she had done to {#blank#}8{#/blank#} those boys out of the slums, and change them into  {#blank#}9{#/blank#} people.

    The teacher's eyes began to shine and said {#blank#}10{#/blank#} a sweet smile, “It's really very easy. I love those boys. ”

Once my mother told me a story. In Africa, when an antelope (羚羊) wakes up every morning, the first thing it thinks about is, "I must be able to run faster than the fastest lion, or I will be k{#blank#}1{#/blank#}." At the same time, a lion wakes from his dream. The first thing the lion thinks about is, "I must be able to catch the {#blank#}2{#/blank#}antelope, or I will die of hunger ." So almost at the same time, the antelope and the lion get up and start running toward the rising sun.

This is life: full of chances and challenges. Whether you are an antelope or a lion, you must go a{#blank#}3{#/blank#}when the sun rises. For students, it is just the same. If we don't study hard, sooner or later, we will fall b{#blank#}4{#/blank#}the other students. At first, I didn't know what the word "exam" meant. Later, I knew an exam was a kind of competition. In competitions, there are always w{#blank#}5{#/blank#} and losers. As I grew up, I got to know "competition". In one's life, there must be competitions, so people can improve.

Each time I saw children playing games and heard their laughter, I wished I were that age again. However, I remembered my parents' words: "You must work very hard in order to have a good f{#blank#}6{#/blank#}. " So I picked up my pen and began to study hard again.

    I was still not sure what competition really meant. One day, I was taking part in an English-speaking competition. When I went to the stage, I saw other students looking at me kindly. I s{#blank#}7{#/blank#} knew what competition was. It is not as cruel as my teacher and parents told me. In fact, competition is the opposite: it is kind and necessary.

    I learned a lot from realizing this . Now I understand better about the world. Competition is important for us all.
