Thousands of years ago, people didn't know that the Earth moved. They thought the sun really did move across the sky. The Greek god Helios was said to drive the sun around the sky with his chariot(战车). But now, these ideas have all changed. Nowadays, it is the sun that drives our “chariot”around the sky.
So what does all this mean? Well, quite simply, there is now a plane (or “chariot”) that is powered by the sun. It has special parts in its wings. These parts absorb power from the sun. They absorb so much power that they can carry on flying at night. In the Greek myths(希腊神话), Helios had to take a break at night. It seems we're finally even more efficient than the gods themselves.
This plane is called Solar Impulse (“太阳驱动”号). It will fly across the US in May. This is very important for the future of the world.
So why is solar energy so good for us? Well, other kinds of energy cause a few problems. If you live in China, you've probably noticed the pollution. This is caused by burning coal or gas to make energy. The heat and chemicals(化学制品)from this make things work. But if we use the heat from the sun, we don't have to burn anything, and there's no pollution.
Solar energy is not all there yet. It needs to be improved. But the best thing about it is that, unlike coal and gas, it doesn't run out. Solar Impulse could keep flying forever. Well, actually, the sun will run out too, one day, but not for another 5 billion years. That's a pretty long flight.

(1)、What does “chariot” really refer to in the last sentence of Paragraph 1?

A、The Earth B、The Greek god C、Solar Impulse. D、Birds.
(2)、Which of the following is TRUE of Solar Impulse?

A、It can only fly at night B、It has already flown across the US C、It is powered by the sun. D、It needs gas to work.
(3)、In the passage, what is mentioned as the cause of pollution in China?

A、Overpopulation B、Burning coal or gas C、Using solar energy. D、Heavy traffic.
(4)、What does the writer mean by “That's a pretty long flight”?

A、It takes a lot of time to get Solar Impulse going. B、Solar Impulse moves very slowly. C、Solar Impulse will be in use for a long time. D、Solar Impulse has a long way to go to take the place of the sun.
(5)、The passage is most probably taken from___________.

A、a Greek myth B、a science fiction C、a story-book D、a science magazine

What makes 15,000 men and women run for hours, and what makes them run through the streets on a cold day without coats? I was one of those runners.  The race is called marathon (马拉松).
I had never run more than eight miles before, and here I was training. Since the race is in April, I had to run throughout the winter, and in Boston, winters are cold. For most people, just putting on their shirts, sweaters, jackets, and hats is exercise enough. I found myself out on the dark streets, running along ice sidewalks (人行道). Even in gloves, my fingers got so cold that they looked like red carrots. My nose didn't get warm until lunchtime!
Finally, the big day arrived. The weather was cold, with ice and rain. Bang! The gun sounded, and we started. I didn't go anywhere at first because I was standing behind so many people. I had to wait for them to move.
At first, the running was easy.  The other runners just seemed to pull me along. Somewhere around the 20-mile mark I even said to myself, "This is nothing, why did I train so hard?"
Then I hit "the wall". "The wall" is what marathon runners call the special point. I knew my body reached the point and I thought I couldn't go any more. I was out of breath and my legs turned into pieces of wood.  I was almost falling down.  I can't remember anything about the last five miles of the race.
I kept running though. At last, I heard a voice at the finishing line.
"You look good," my friend Ted said. "How did it feel?"
    "Wonderful !" I replied.
For everything, if you devote yourself into it, there will be a way. I finished the race, at least, in my heart, I was the winner.

When on the go or traveling, a Disposable(一次性) Toothbrush might be just the product for you, Typically, a Disposable Toothbrush is made out of a plastic material, with toothpaste already on the brush head. Just add water while you are using it. In some new Disposable Toothbrush models, the toothpaste comes automatically(自动地) as you squeeze (挤) the handle of the toothbrush.

Colgate has upped the competition in the Disposable Toothbrush market by creating a Disposable Toothbrush that you can use at your desk at work, in your car, or after eating at a restaurant. This toothbrush is called the Colgate Wisp, and is about the size of an index finger. The toothbrush can get to those places that are hard to reach just like a regular toothbrush. No water is necessary when using this toothbrush, making it very useful and convenient. A pack of four of the Colgate Wisp's run at about $2.99. If you are one of those people that like to brush your teeth throughout the day but hate the hassle of carrying a toothbrush and toothpaste around, this is perfect!

Gadgets.boingboing.net is a website that allows different people to share their thoughts and experiences on a certain product. The website gives a general review on the Colgate Wisp, and following the review, people are able to share their first-hand feelings with readers. This is helpful if you are interested in purchasing the Wisp. Visit their website here: gadgets.boingboing.net.

However, people throw them away after using them only once. It is a kind of waste and is very bad for the environment. If you travel to Beijing, remember to bring your own things. Starting from June, some hotels in Beijing will no longer provide guests with these disposable goods.
