       Thousands of years ago, people didn't know that the Earth moved. They thought the sun really did move across the sky. The Greek god Helios was said to drive the sun around the sky with his chariot(战车). But now, these ideas have all changed. Nowadays, it is the sun that drives our “chariot”around the sky.
       So what does all this mean? Well, quite simply, there is now a plane (or “chariot”) that is powered by the sun. It has special parts in its wings. These parts absorb power from the sun. They absorb so much power that they can carry on flying at night. In the Greek myths(希腊神话), Helios had to take a break at night. It seems we're finally even more efficient than the gods themselves.
       This plane is called Solar Impulse (“太阳驱动”号). It will fly across the US in May. This is very important for the future of the world.
So why is solar energy so good for us? Well, other kinds of energy cause a few problems. If you live in China, you've probably noticed the pollution. This is caused by burning coal or gas to make energy. The heat and chemicals(化学制品)from this make things work. But if we use the heat from the sun, we don't have to burn anything, and there's no pollution.
    Solar energy is not all there yet. It needs to be improved. But the best thing about it is that, unlike coal and gas, it doesn't run out. Solar Impulse could keep flying forever. Well, actually, the sun will run out too, one day, but not for another 5 billion years. That's a pretty long flight.

(1)、What does “chariot” really refer to in the last sentence of Paragraph 1?

A、The Earth B、The Greek god C、Solar Impulse. D、Birds.
(2)、Which of the following is TRUE of Solar Impulse?

A、It can only fly at night B、It has already flown across the US C、It is powered by the sun. D、It needs gas to work.
(3)、In the passage, what is mentioned as the cause of pollution in China?

A、Overpopulation B、Burning coal or gas C、Using solar energy. D、Heavy traffic.
(4)、What does the writer mean by “That's a pretty long flight”?

A、It takes a lot of time to get Solar Impulse going. B、Solar Impulse moves very slowly. C、Solar Impulse will be in use for a long time. D、Solar Impulse has a long way to go to take the place of the sun.
(5)、The passage is most probably taken from___________.

A、a Greek myth B、a science fiction C、a story-book D、a science magazine

    Thinking is something you choose to do as a fish chooses to live in water. To be human is to think. But thinking may come naturally without your knowing how you do it. Thinking about thinking is the key to critical(批判性的) thinking. When you think critically, you take control of your thinking processes(过程). Otherwise, you might be controlled by the ideas of others. Indeed, critical thinking is at the heart of education.
    The word “critical”here has a special meaning. It does not mean taking one view against another view, as when someone criticizes another person for doing something wrong. The nature of critical thinking is thinking beyond the easily seen--beyond the pictures on TV, the untrue reports in the newspapers, and the faulty reasoning.
    Critical thinking is an attitude as much as an activity. If you are interested in life and want to dig deeper into it, you are a critical thinker. If you find pleasure in deep thinking about different ideas, characters, and facts, you are a critical thinker.
    Activities of the mind and higher-order reasoning(推理)are processes of deep and careful consideration. They take time, and do not go hand in hand with the fast speed in today's world: fast foods, instant coffee, and self-developing film. If you are among the people who believe that speed is a measure(尺度)of intelligence(智慧), you may learn something new from a story about Albert Einstein. The first time Banesh Hoffman, a scientist, was to discuss his work with Albert Einstein. Hoffman was too nervous to speak. But Einstein immediately made Hoffman feel comfortable by saying, “Please go slowly. I don't understand things quickly.”

    Have you ever heard someone use the phrase "once in a blue moon"? People use this expression to describe something that they do not do very often. For example, someone might say that he tries to keep away from sweets because they are unhealthy, but will eat chocolate once in a blue moon. Or someone who does not like to. Go to the beach might say, "I visit the shore(岸边) once in a blue moon." While many people use this phrase, not everyone knows the meaning behind it.

    The first thing to know is that the moon itself is never actually blue.  This is just an expression. The phrase "blue moon" actually has to do with the shape of the moon, not the color.

    As the moon travels around the earth, it appears to change shape. We have certain names for certain shapes of the moon. For example, when we can see a small part of the moon, it is called a crescent moon. A crescent is a shape that looks like the tip of a fingernail(指甲). When we can see the moon appear in the sky as a thin crescent, it is called a new moon. When we can see the whole moon, it is called a full moon. Usually, there is only one full moon every month. Sometimes, however, there will be two full moons in one month. When this happens, the second full moon is called a "blue moon".

    It's predicted(预言) that there will only be 15 blue moons over the next 20 years. As you can see, a blue moon is a very unusual event. This fact has led people to use the expression "once in blue moon" to describe other" very unusual events in their lives.

下面文章中有五处(第1—5 题)需要添加小标题。请从以下选项(A、B、C、D、E和F)中选出符合意思的标题。选项中有一项是多余选项。

Do You Want to Be a Writer?

Here are some tips on becoming a writer.

{#blank#}1{#/blank#}

Most writers read whatever books they can find because they love to lose themselves in them. They like the sounds of language and the way that reading a good description can feel as satisfying as a baseball game or eating a banana split.

It's easy to forget a good idea if you do not write it down immediately. If you get in the habit of carrying a notebook with you everywhere you go, you can write down anything you want to remember. When you are talking to friends in the cafe or waiting for the bus, something might spark an idea for a character or scene in a story.

{#blank#}3{#/blank#}

Nearly all writers agree that writers must write. It doesn't matter if you feel like you have nothing to say; the important thing is that you write every single day. Sometimes, you need to give yourself permission to write things which won't be your best work.

{#blank#}4{#/blank#}

Do you have any friends who enjoy writing? Think about starting a writing group with other people who have similar interests. It helps to have the support of other writers. You will also receive valuable feedback, or suggestions, about how to make you work better.

If you decide that you would like to send your work for publication, make sure to do your research. If you are sending your writing to a magazine, look through old ones. Does it seem like your writing fits in with the other stories or articles? That's the homework for you after writing.

A. Join or start a writing group

B. Read everything you can.

C. Write every day

D. Keep a notebook

E. Stay active

F. Do your homework

Weeks before Tomb-Sweeping Day on April 4 this year, hundreds of qingtuan were sold each day. The snack was still a must-have for many people.

In the southern part of China, eating qingtuan at the beginning of spring is a kind of tradition. Chinese people started to eat it more than 2, 000 years ago. It is made of sticky rice(糯米) and red bean paste(红豆沙), and is famous for its softness, freshness and sweetness. The secret behind its mouth-watering taste is one of its materials—mugwort leaves (艾蒿叶). The plant is mainly found in the Yangtze RiverDelta(长江三角洲) where it has perfect conditions to grow.

People in this area usually put qingtuan on the tombs(墓) of their dead family members to cherish the past memory. Making qingtuan is also a chance for family members to get together at home. It really takes time and effort to make the snack.

Now, qingtuan has already spread its special taste to the northern part of China. Li Yuan, a 30-year-old engineer who grew up in Zhejiang Province, brought qingtuan back to Beijing where he works. "It tastes different in and out of my hometown, "he said. "There's no place like home. "

Qingtuan has many different tastes inside it, such as apples and bean milk, to meet customers' tastes. The difference of the taste shows that it's getting more and more popular across the whole country.

Even though there is warm weather and green leaves in spring, the season wouldn't be complete without a taste of qingtuan.
