Do your family often take a trip? For most families, a trip in a car to an unfamiliar (不熟悉的) area often goes with the question about which way {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(take). This is not the case, however, in the Williams family. They never get {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(lose) when five-year-old Daniel is with them. That's because Daniel has the unbelievable{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(able) to tell them the best way to get from one place to another anywhere in England and what's more, he doesn't need a map-he can do it{#blank#}4{#/blank#}thinking.

    Daniel{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(be) interested in place names since he first learned to talk. When he was about three, he started asking his parents questions about how the roads they drove along joined up, and{#blank#}6{#/blank#}soon became obvious that he had a super memory for maps. He had no difficulty{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(remember) the roads he saw from the car window.

    Now, after school, Daniel's {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(favor) game is drawing maps of the road systems in the places he hasn't visited. His parents have no idea where his particular talent comes from{#blank#}9{#/blank#}no one else in the family has it. Although he has other{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(hobby) Daniel's greatest goal in life is to become a mapmaker.

    In 1955, I got a train ticket to visit my relatives in Cleveland. On my return trip, I met {#blank#}1{#/blank#} handsome soldier. He asked if he could look at the train timetable {#blank#}2{#/blank#} was held in my hand and then if he could sit next to me so that we could chat. I agreed and invited him to share the lunch my aunt {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (pack) for me before leaving. We talked all the way.     After a week, I still didn't receive a letter {#blank#}5{#/blank#} him and began to think he'd forgotten about me.     In 1957, we got married. We've been together for more than 60 years, raising three daughters who now have daughters of{#blank#}8{#/blank#} (they) own. Before taking my trip to Cleveland years ago, I was warned never{#blank#}9{#/blank#} (speak) to strangers on a train. I'm {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (certain) glad I didn't listen.

    Elisabeth Kubler-Ross was born in Zurich, Switzerland in 1926. In spite of her father's objections, Elisabeth was determined at an early age {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(study) medicine and in 1957 received her medical degree from the University of Zurich. In 1958 she married Dr. Emanuel Ross, {#blank#}2{#/blank#}American, who also studied medicine at the university and they moved to the U.S. to fulfill their medical dreams {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (well).

    While working at Manhattan State Hospital, Dr. Kubler-Ross {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(horrify) by the routine neglect and poor treatment of mental patients. It was here that she began her lifelong approach to medical practice as she developed a program of individual care and attention for each patient. This approach resulted{#blank#}5{#/blank#}significant improvement in the mental health of 94% of her patients.

    In 1965, Dr. Kubler-Ross published her first book, On Death and Dying, a 1969 worldwide bestseller. {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(base) on her many patient interviews, she identified the five now {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (wide) accepted stages that patients go through as they approach death: denial, anger, bargaining,{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(depress) and acceptance.

    During her career, Dr. Kubler-Ross served in 16 different hospitals and universities,{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(write) more than 20 books, many of {#blank#}10{#/blank#}were translated into other languages, and received many honors. In 1999, she was listed among Time's 100 Most Important Thinkers of the Century.
