Eighty-year-old retired tailor, James McKay, spent Saturday night in prison after hitting 30-year-old Keith Smith over the head with his walking stick. McKay's wife, Laurene said that, while McKay is usually a(n)1 and pleasant person, he had been driven to this act of2 by literally getting wet just once too often. He could no longer3 it.

Smith lives above the McKays. He is a(n)4 gardener, and also a fish collector. Unfortunately, the water he5 over his balcony(平台)every day ended up on the McKay's floor, or too often, on the unsuspecting McKays themselves.

"For the last two weeks, since Smith moved into the flat above us, we dared not go onto our6 ," said Laurene. She added that it wasn't only the water7 their balcony from Smith watering his plants that8 them, but also the way he cleaned his fish9 . "What's your name? " My fifteen-ear-old daughter, Jessica, asked a stranger on the street. Her eyes sparkled with 1 and her face wore a broad smile. I wish she could make it because she has a disability with autistic (自闭症的). I stood nearby, waiting 2 for any potential result.

To be honest, the 3 nature of hers is a result of her disability. Ever since Jessica was real young, she had 4 right up to strangers on the street and 5 a conversation, never expecting to be refused. Children with autism don't relate well to others. As her mum, my thoughts are 6 . On one hand, I tried my best to prevent her from 7 others. On the other hand, I don't want her to be discouraged. Happily, when Jessica talks with someone, it always 8 me that people patiently answer her, although they must sense she's a bit different.

What about this time? Would this man respond kindly or just 9 her and walk away? A few minutes later, Jessica skipped to me. Obviously, it was a successful 10 . Jessica shared with me the 11 they had talked about, which would certainly 12 my daughter's day. The man just treated her like an ordinary girl, nothing special from others.

As we continued on our way, I felt a renewed sense full of 13 for the future. Despite my daughter's problem, an equal 14 the kind people gave her created a moment of 15 interaction.

阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的A 、B 、C 和 D 四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。

Anytime I travel on my bicycle across the country,I'm always amazed by how kind people can be to strangers.

One night,my friends and I were camping in a town in Missouri.There was a severe storm and we were getting  1 .A complete stranger came by to2 us that there were tornadoes(龙卷风)heading  our  way.The stranger invited us to his home.We were surprised by his3 for our safety.Later we learned that there had  been a lightening strike near the place where we had camped and several cattle had been4 .

Fortunately,we spent the night in a nice dry home.We were5 given the opportunity to take a shower. The next morning we had breakfast with the family and6 contact  information.In  a way we  felt  like  the family had become a part of our journey.This was one of the most heartwarming7 of my life because this  family had nothing to8 by being so kind to us.We were9 not the type they would usually10 but they treated us with respect and kindness.  The kindness of a stranger always11 my faith in humanity.Whatever the person12 always comes with no strings attached and that's the most13 part.

That family 14 us so much that during the rest of the trip,we 15 others out every chance we got. We even bought food with our busking(街头卖艺)tips for the homeless.It's always heartwarming when giving feels  as good as receiving.
