There were many problems when people first moved into the cities in the US and UK. Many lived in bad conditions in poor housing. The governments on {#blank#}1{#/blank#} sides of the Atlantic, worked to improve the living conditions of city dwellers (居民). For a while, especially in the U.S., city life came to be seen as the best and most exciting way to live. Living in the rural areas was regarded as boring. Who wanted to be struggling to {#blank#}2{#/blank#} a living in the country doing hard agricultural labor?

    Many in the UK believed that they had a much better chance of improving themselves in the city. It would be {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (easy) to move from the ranks of manual laborers to the middle classes {#blank#}4{#/blank#} they could get better jobs and education. However, Britain has always had a deep love of the beauty and peacefulness of the countryside. The upper classes have always liked to have a {#blank#}5{#/blank#} both in London and in the country. They still wanted to go to the country {#blank#}6{#/blank#} the summer.

    Over the last two generations in the UK and US, industrialization has slowed down and more people have become {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (dissatisfy) with life in urban areas. They are concerned about overcrowding, too much traffic and pollution. What most people want now is a life in the country. They want to move to a village, small town or small holding outside of the city {#blank#}8{#/blank#} they can have more space and some peace and quiet. Developments in transportation {#blank#}9{#/blank#} that people can continue longer distance, so more people are living as far as they can from urban centers.

People also believe that village and small town life is better for children. Many say that the schools,

{#blank#}10{#/blank#} the primary schools, are better in smaller villages. The classes are smaller and some say there will be more positive influence on their children and that their social life will be more fulfilling and nurturing.

    My time in China was a(an){#blank#}1{#/blank#} (forget) experience. Every day was a new adventure. I made life-long friends and had many{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(last) memories. My study abroad program organized trips for us to learn about each city and to visit cultural {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (sight). While I was in Beijing, I climbed the Great Wall of China, and visited Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City and the Bird's Nest Olympic stadium. I also had the opportunity of {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (stick) in a Beijing thunderstorm, bargaining in the market, and riding the high-speed train. While I was in Tianjin, I{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(study) at Nankai University. I was taking the Chinese language and culture courses{#blank#}6{#/blank#} I enjoyed most is that whatever I learned in class, I would use it outside to communicate with people. Having the opportunity {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (speak) Mandarin every day really improved my learning. In the afternoon I would have culture classes{#blank#}8{#/blank#} I would learn about Chinese calligraphy, Beijing opera, Chinese martial arts, Chinese cooking and many other subjects. The mix of learning about the language and culture made each day of class {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (enjoyable') exciting.

    I believe that the key {#blank#}10{#/blank#}studying abroad successfully is the attitude you carry. Going to China, I was open-minded and had a very positive attitude.

Up to 82 percent of children with healthy mothers are not easy to be obese(肥胖的), according to research. A mother, {#blank#}1{#/blank#} has a healthy weight, exercises regularly, eats a healthy diet, doesn't smoke and only {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(drink) wine in moderation, is significantly less likely {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(have)a fat child, scientists say.

The study examined the medical history and lifestyles of more than 24,000 children aged nine {#blank#}7{#/blank#} fourteen, born to almost 17,000 women in the US. Researchers looked at the link between overall mother health and likelihood of a child {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(be) obese.

The mother's health was judged on her height-to-weight ratio(比例), her diet, amount of physical {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(active), smoking status and how much alcohol she drank. A healthy weight and diet, regular exercise, no smoking and moderate drinking all reduce the chance of a woman having {#blank#}10{#/blank#} obese child.

    Chinese President Xi Jinping has praised a group of middle school students for their efforts in satellite design. He said he was pleased with their curiosity and bravery in {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (science) exploration. The president also wished the teachers and students in Bayi School {#blank#}2{#/blank#} happy new year.

    Xi made the praise in a letter {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (write) to the students in Beijing's Bayi School on Saturday.
