    We need animals. Every animal has its place in the balance(平衡) of nature. We should try to help save the animals.

    Some people think zoos are good places. The zoos give the animals the comfortable and safe living places. If the animals get hurt or ill, people will take care of them. The zoo is a good place to know the rules in the wild world. We can be much closer to nature. We can know more about the animals in the zoos by watching, listening even smelling instead of just looking at the pictures in books.

    Some people don't think animals feel happy in the zoos. Animals like pandas, wolves and bears usually live in the wild. They play and find food by themselves. They are free and happy in the wild. If they are in the zoos, food is enough and rooms are comfortable. They do not need to do their best to find food to eat or places to stay in. They just walk around, sleep day and night, but they are not free at all.

    I think we should build national parks as wild life nature reserves to protect animals. If we do nothing, animals will get fewer and fewer.

    It is said that more than four million people die each year from smoking. That number is frightening.

    Yet people around the world continue to smoke. In the United States, about forty-seven-million adults smoke. This year, more than 430,000 Americans died of diseases which have something to do with smoking. The American Cancer Society(美国癌症协会)says smoking harms the body greatly. It warns that smoking even a number of cigarettes is dangerous.

    Now we arestaying in Bangkok (曼谷) It is the capital of Thailand and it is a very interesting placeto visit. Yesterday we visited some places of interest in the city. They aregreat! This morning we went shopping.

When we eat in the restaurants in Bangkok, the waiters are really niceand they are always smiling. Thai food is delicious, but it is sometimes alittle spicy (辛辣的) for me. You can also get Chinesefood here because a lot of Chinese people came to live in Bangkok many yearsago. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} American food can also be found in Bangkok, however, I don't eat it.     Paul is a boy in Brazil. He has many pen-friends around the world. He likes writing to them and receiving their letters in return. He started writing to his first pen-friend, Thomas Wright from Britain, when he was ten years old. They have been writing to each other for two years now.

    Paul also has five other pen-friends. They are from Korea, Malaysia, Switzerland, Norway and Mexico, He got their names and addresses from various sources (各种来源): the International Pen-friend Club, the Look and Learn magazine and the newspapers.

    Paul enjoys writing to people from other countries because he finds it very interesting to learn more about those countries and the different cultures and customs that are found there.

    He hopes to visit his pen-friends some day. In the meantime, he will continue writing to them and enjoying their friendship.

    He will also try to look for penfriends from other countries such as Holland, the Philippines and Japan.

    Needless to say, all the letters of Paul and his pen-friends are written in English—the international language.
