I remember my first day at university very clearly.

I felt excited and happy. At the same time I was very nervous because I didn't know anyone. However, my first day at university was unforgettable..

At first, I was lost. I didn't know where to go. I had to ask a stranger where to meet other new students. He was very polite and showed me the way. I walked through some buildings, and when I arrived, I saw many students and I felt even more nervous.

It is natural that we feel nervous on the first day at university, but difficult experiences often have happy endings.

I told myself to be braver. I talked with one girl and we found that we were in the same class. We introduced ourselves. Her name was May. We did some activities together in a group. Soon, I started feeling much better.The activities helped me feel that I was part of a team and I began to feel that I was a university student.

Later, we began our classes. The teacher talked for a while and then we introduced ourselves. I met two girls. Their names were Jane and Anna. We started talking soon and became friends with each other. It was really a special day for me.

I went to the UK last weekend to lean English. So far I have already had a few friends and had some traditional English food here. But after having three days of hamburgers, sandwiches and potatoes, I thought none could be more delicious than Chinese food, especially my favourite — huoguo. You can't imagine how excited I was when I got to know that there was going to be a free meal of hotpot to welcome the new students. On the way to the canteen, I seemed to smell huoguo in the air.

To my surprise, when I went into the room, I didn't see any sign of huoguo. Where was it? With many questions in my mind, I sat down to have the free meal. After talking with an English girl, I got to know that Chinese huoguo is completely different from hotpot. Chinese huoguo is written in two words — hot pot. However, hotpot, one word, is a traditional English dish.

Hotpot is made from mutton and onion. On the top are pieces of potatoes. People put it in the oven all day in a heavy pot at a low heat. It takes very little effort to prepare. You can often see it at parties in the UK because it's easy to prepare for a large number of people and is not expensive.

Hotpot doesn't taste bad. However, I still miss huoguo, hot pot, two words!

Cai Zongqi is a teacher from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Having lived in the United States for nearly 40 years, he has spent around 30 years sharing his understanding 1 Chinese literature(文学) with his students.

In 2007, his book How to Read Chinese Poetry came out. 2 book is an anthology（选集） and includes 143 famous classical Chinese poems. Back then, Cai said he couldn't find good teaching materials to perfectly explain 3 Chinese poems meant. With the help of the book, American students can understand Chinese poetry 4 than before.

The book 5 is so popular has been reprinted(再次印刷) time and again. Encouraged by this, Cai went on to write some more 6 including How to ReadChinese Prose（散文）.

Cai believes that reading Chinese poetry may help readers to look at 7 life from a new point of view and live a better life. 8 the beauty of Chinese poetry and literature to more people around the world, Cai started the How to Read Chinese Poetry podcast（播客） in 2022. In the podcast, poems 9 aloud in English and Chinese with classical Chinese music in the background.

In recent years, Chinese cartoons are catching more and more people's eye. For Chinese cartoon lovers, I Am WhatI Am is a film they can't miss. The film tells the story of Ah Juan, a left-behind child(留守儿童). He lives in a village in Guangdong Province. He's having trouble with his life. He's weak in other people's eyes. One day, after meeting a girl, he comes up with an idea of learning lion dances and joining in a competition in Guangzhou with his friends. They learn lion dances from a former(昔日的) lion dancer and train hard day after day. Things are getting better.

However, here comes the bad news: Ah Juan's father has an accident. Ah Juan has to go to the city and find a job to feed his family. But his love for lion dances doesn't stop. The strong love pushes him to run after his dream once again.

This film is very different from traditional Chinese cartoons. Traditional Chinese cartoons often have to do with Chinese fairy tales(童话故事) or legends. But this film looks at real life. It tells us how a left-behind boy faces up to his hard life. Although life isn't perfect or easy, Ah Juan never loses hope. At the same time, there are many scenes of traditional lion dances in the film. They show this kind of traditional Chinese culture to more people.
