        Linda and Betty were both nineteen years old. In June, after a school year was over, they decided to take a vacation{#blank#}1{#/blank#} . They went to several towns and villages, visited some places of interest, saw and heard a lot of interesting things. They{#blank#}2{#/blank#}   very much.

One afternoon, they were going to stay overnight in a small town. It was too {#blank#}3{#/blank#}  to go further and they wished they could find a river and swim in the cool water. They were driving the car{#blank#}4{#/blank#}  while they were looking around. Suddenly Linda saw a lake not far away. They drove there fast and{#blank#}5{#/blank#} by the lake. They looked around and found a woman sitting on a stone and fishing there. After they {#blank#}6{#/blank#} and were going to jump into the water, the woman came up to them and shouted, "Sorry, madams. Swimming  {#blank#}7{#/blank#}  in the lake!"
"Why didn't you tell us about it{#blank#}8{#/blank#}   we took off our clothes?" Betty said angrily.    "But it isn't forbidden to take off clothes by the lake," said the woman.

    A road is a bridge between two places. The Silk Road has been a bridge East and West for more than 2,000 years. The Silk Road has been {#blank#}1{#/blank#} included into the UNESCO World Heritage List（世界文化遗产名录）at the 38^th session of the World Heritage Committee in Doha.

    But did you know: the Silk Road is not a single route（路线）! It is a series of {#blank#}2{#/blank#} and cultural transmission（传递）routes. It began during the Western Han Dynasty. The trade route starts from the city of Xi'an in Shannxi Province and  {#blank#}3{#/blank#} in Eastern Europe, near today's Turkey and the Mediterranean Sea. The Silk Road was about 6,500 kilometers long. It went  {#blank#}4{#/blank#} one-fourth of the planet.

    The Silk Road got its name  {#blank#}5{#/blank#} Chinese silk used to be carried along this road. Apart from silk, jade, ceramics and iron went west to Rome. From the west came glass, gems and food {#blank#}6{#/blank#} carrots and sesame（芝麻）.

    The Silk Road was very  {#blank#}7{#/blank#} to both China and the rest of the world. Besides trade, knowledge about science, arts and literature, as well as crafts and technologies was  {#blank#}8{#/blank#} across the Silk Road. In this way, languages and cultures developed and {#blank#}9{#/blank#} each other.

    Today, {#blank#}10{#/blank#} along the Silk Road are great travel destinations（目的地）,such as the Terracotta Warriors in Xi'an and Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang Gansu.

    One evening, three old men came to a house and knocked at the door .The woman in the house {#blank#}1{#/blank#} the door and said. “I don't think I know you, but you must be hungry. Please come in and have {#blank#}2{#/blank#} to eat” “We do not go into a house together.” they replied. “Why is that?” She wanted to know.

    One of men explained, “His {#blank#}3{#/blank#} is Wealth(财富) .” He pointed to one of his friends.

    Then he pointed to another and said, “He is Success, and I am Love .You have to pick one of us.”

    The woman told the family {#blank#}4{#/blank#} had happened .Her husband said.“ Why don't we invite Wealth? Our house will be filled with money! But the woman wanted to have Success. Their daughter was listening {#blank#}5{#/blank#} one corner of the house. She jumped in with her own suggestion :“Wouldn't it be better {#blank#}6{#/blank#} we invited Love? I am sure our house will then be filled with {#blank#}7{#/blank#} !

    They finally {#blank#}8{#/blank#} to invite Love. The woman went out and asked the three men ,“Which one of you is Love ? P lease come in and be our guest（客人）.”

    Love got up and {#blank#}9{#/blank#} to the door .The other two followed.

    The woman was very {#blank#}10{#/blank#} and asked, “I only invited Love, why are you coming in ?”The old men replied together :”Wherever Love goes ,we go with him .Wherever there is Love，there is also Wealth and Success!”

    Air is very important to everything that lives. But the air we breathe is g{#blank#}1{#/blank#} dirty. People all over the world are looking for w{#blank#}2{#/blank#} to make it clean again.

    Have you e{#blank#}3{#/blank#} watched the smoke from chimneys(烟囱) rising high in the air? Have you s{#blank#}4{#/blank#} the smoke from cars and trucks on roads or the smoke from planes? The smoke is not g{#blank#}5{#/blank#} to breathe. If we want to keep healthy and strong, we need to breathe c{#blank#}6{#/blank#} air.

    W{#blank#}7{#/blank#} more and more factories everywhere and more and more cars, trucks and planes, it is getting harder and harder to do with the air p{#blank#}8{#/blank#}.

    Scientists have a{#blank#}9{#/blank#} taken actions to stop or slow down some of the things that make the air dirty. They will not stop working u{#blank#}10{#/blank#} we have clean air again.
