Nowadays, you can see many people busy on their smartphones(智能手机) if you look a{#blank#}1{#/blank#} Smartphones make our lives easier. But have you ever t {#blank#}2{#/blank#}  about what they mean to your eyes?

    Staring(盯) at smartphones for long time gives you dry eyes and even causes a disease c{#blank#}3{#/blank#} glaucoma(青光眼).

While you're probably not going to stop using your smartphone, there are a few things you can do to protect your eyes. Hold your phone at least 30 cm away from your eyes when using it. Take a break every h{#blank#}4{#/blank#}  and try the following: look at something at least five meters away from you and then focus on the tip of your nose. Repeat this s{#blank#}5{#/blank#} times. It should reduce(减少) the discomfort in your eyes.

    When I was 13 years old, a boy gave me an important gift. It was a smile.

    It was the early autumn of my first year at a new school, and my old school was far away. As a result, no one knew who I was. I was very lonely, and a{#blank#}1{#/blank#} to make friends with anyone.

    That smile changed my life. I started to talk with the other students and made friends. Day by day, I became c{#blank#}8{#/blank#} to everyone in my class. The boy with the lucky smile has become my best friend now.

    One day, I asked him w{#blank#}9{#/blank#} he smiled, but he couldn't remember smiling at me!

    It doesn't m{#blank#}10{#/blank#} because all the dark days have gone. If you think you are lonely, you might always be alone. So smile at the world and it will smile back.

    Mr Brown's horse was lost at night. All of his friends were very {#blank#}1{#/blank#} to hear that and came to see him together. After {#blank#}2{#/blank#}（听） his story, one of them said, “Why didn't you close the door of the stable(马厩) last night?” “You aren't a deaf man”, the second said. “Didn't you {#blank#}3{#/blank#}anything at that moment? Do you think that it's all my fault(错误）?{#blank#}10{#/blank#} don't you blame(责备) the thief?”

New Year's Eve is {#blank#}1{#/blank#} special time for us. We live in New York, and we often go to a big New Year's Eve {#blank#}2{#/blank#}in Times Square. We get{#blank#}3{#/blank#}with our friends and sing traditional songs while we wait for the New Year. Then suddenly just {#blank#}4{#/blank#}midnight, the music stops. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}all count down from ten to zero. {#blank#}6{#/blank#}the fireworks begin. I love the bright lights,{#blank#}7{#/blank#}the noise makes me jump. We all say "Happy New Year" to our {#blank#}8{#/blank#}.

    I usually {#blank#}9{#/blank#}New Year's Day at home with my family. We write our New Year's resolutions together. We all promise to work hard and help{#blank#}10{#/blank#}other more.
