She is a beautiful red-haired girl. she has been shopping with her mom in Wal-Mart. It was raining hard outside. We all stood there under the awning (雨篷). Her voice was so sweet. “Mom, let's run through the rain,” she said.
“What?” Mom asked.
“Let's run through the rain!”
“No, honey. We'll wait until it slows down a bit,” Mom replied.
The child waited about another minute and repeated, “Mom, let's run through the rain.”
“We'll get wet if we do,” Mom said.
“No, we won't, Mom. That's not what you said this morning,” the young girl said as she pulled her mom's arm.
“This morning? When did I say we could run through the rain and not get wet?”
“Don't you remember? When you were talking to Daddy about his cancer(癌症), you said, we can get through anything!”
The crowd(人群) became silent. Nothing could be heard but the rain. No one came or left in the next few minutes. Mom thought for a moment about what she would say.
“Honey, you are right. Let's run through the rain. If we get wet, maybe we'll just need to get a wash,” Mom said.
Then off they ran. People all stood watching, smiling and laughing as they rushed past the cars and through the puddles(水坑).
They held their shopping bags over their heads. They got wet through. But they were followed by a few who laughed like children all the way to their cars.
People can take away your money and health. But no one can ever take away your memories….So don't forget to make time to make memories every day.

We spent a day in the country and picked a lot of flowers. Our car was full of flowers inside! On the way home we had to stop at traffic lights, and there my wife saw the bookshelf. It stood outside a furniture(家具)shop. "Buy it,"she said at once. "We'll carry it home on the roof-rack(车顶架). I've always wanted one like that."What could I do? Ten minutes later I was twenty dollars poorer, and the bookshelf was tied on to the roof rack. It was tall and narrow, quite heavy too. As it was getting darker, I drove slowly. Other drivers seemed more polite than usual that evening. The police even stopped traffic to let us through. Carrying furniture was a good idea. After a time my wife said, "There's a long line of cars behind. Why don't they overtake(超车)?" Just at that time a police car did overtake. The two officers(警官)inside looked at us seriously when they went past. But then, with a kind smile they asked us to follow their car through the busy traffic. The police car stopped at our village church(教堂). One of the officers came to me. "Right, sir," he said. "Do you need any more help now?"I didn't quite understand. "Thanks, officer," I said. "You've been very kind. I live just down the road."He was looking at our things: first at the flowers, then at the bookshelf. "Well, well," he said and laughed. "It's a bookshelf you've got there! We thought it was--er, something else."My wife began to laugh. Suddenly I understood why the police drove here. I smiled at the officer. "Yes, it's a bookshelf, but thanks again."I drove home as fast as I could.

第一篇

Few families in the United States do not have either a radio or a television set. Both of them have become a necessary part of our daily lives, keeping us filled with the news of the day, teaching us in many fields of interest, and making us happy with songs, dances and other performances.

Marconi, the Italian inventor, gave us the radio. He probably didn't know how much his great invention would have done for the world in the years to come. Radio had perhaps done as much as any other communication tool. Things of the world can be reported to people everywhere a few seconds after they happened. Travellers in out-of-the-way places, ships at sea, even astronauts around the earth are able to keep in touch with each other by radio.

Television is another important invention. It lets us see as well as hear the actor. Since its

appearance, TV has done a great deal in the daily lives of people everywhere. Many programmes are now televised in colour.

Perhaps the most modern invention is the "Telstar", a"star"moving around the earth. It makes it possible for the people all over the world to be closer than ever before. Now a family in Chicago can watch a motor car race in Italy on TV, a table tennis competition in Beijing or a volleyball match in Japan as these events are actually happening!
