I want to buy a pair of sports shoes for a long time. I had spend months saving up the money to buy them and I finally had e  {#blank#}1{#/blank#}. Last Saturday my friend Jake wanted to buy a new CD, so we decided to go shopping together.

   We took the bus into town and it was very c {#blank#}2{#/blank#}, so we had to stand all the way.Jake and I were talking when I suddenly n {#blank#}3{#/blank#}that my bag was open and my purse had gone! The bus had just stopped and there was a boy near me who was going  quickly towards the door. We thought he had stolen my money so we got off the bus and f {#blank#}4{#/blank#}   him. The boy started running and then Jake ran after him shouting “Stop! T {#blank#}5{#/blank#} !” It was like a scene out of a film! A policeman saw what was going on and managed to get the boy.

   The embarrassing thing was that when the policeman s  {#blank#}6{#/blank#} the boy, he didn't have my purse! He probably thrown it away before he was caught. The boy said we had made a mistake and we shouldn't blame（指责）him for the stolen purse. He explained that he had o  {#blank#}7{#/blank#}   started running because he was late for a meeting with friends. The policeman a  {#blank#}8{#/blank#}   him to go and I felt really stupid. I don't know whether he stole my purse or not as there was no proof（证据）. I wish I hadn't been so careless and had kept an e {#blank#}9{#/blank#} on my bag!

   I've lost my front door key and 60 pounds. I'm really fed up. Jake offered to lend me the money to buy the sports shoes, but I don't think it's f {#blank#}10{#/blank#}    to take it. It isn't his fault（过失）that I had my purse stolen!

    Nogoba was a cavegirl. She lived in a cave（洞穴）with about 40 other people. Cavepeople lived in big groups to help each other. Their l{#blank#}1{#/blank#} were very dangerous. There were many w{#blank#}2{#/blank#}animals near the caves — lions, tigers, bears and elephants.

The cavemen hunted. They k{#blank#}3{#/blank#}the animals for food. The children's jobs were dangerous, too. Nogoba and her friends went to the river every day to get w{#blank#}4{#/blank#}. Sometimes, the river was very deep. S{#blank#}5{#/blank#},there were animals near the river.

For many months of the y{#blank#}6{#/blank#}, Nogoba was cold. There was ice and snow everywhere. It was difficult to be w{#blank#}7{#/blank#}. The children sometimes went to sleep by the fire. Sometimes they were too n{#blank#}8{#/blank#}the fire.

    Sometimes Nogoba and her friends went to f{#blank#}9{#/blank#}fruit and nuts to eat. Sometimes the fruit and nuts were poisonous and everyone became i{#blank#}10{#/blank#}. There weren't any cave doctors or cave hospitals!

FAJTHFUL（忠诚的）TO DEATH

    Some time ago, a fire broke out(爆发) in a building late at night. Nearly all the families were s{#blank#}1{#/blank#} inside the house. After the firemen came, they rushed into the burning building and saved the people to the safe p{#blank#}2{#/blank#}.

    The crowds thought a{#blank#}3{#/blank#} the people were safe. But it was not so. Two little orphan （孤儿) girls were still asleep alone at the very top of the building, in a small room. N{#blank#}4{#/blank#} thought of them. Luckily, they lived with a dog.

    The dog tried to wake them up, but f{#blank#}5{#/blank#}. He ran to the window and barked(吠叫) loudly for help. B{#blank#}6{#/blank#} no one noticed him. Then he climbed down the ladder (梯子) and tried to pull a fireman to the ladder. The fireman kicked him away, thinking he was mad. Then the dog ran to a{#blank#}7{#/blank#} fireman, jumped on him, ran to the ladder, barking all the time and looking back as if he was asking the fireman to follow him.

    This fireman realized there must be someone in the little room, as the dog was acting so strangely. So he followed the dog u{#blank#}8{#/blank#} the ladder, there he saw the two girls and saved them.

    Where was the d{#blank#}9{#/blank#}? A brave fireman rushed into the room to look for him and found him lying near the window, choked (窒息) with smoke. He brought him down with care, but he was already d{#blank#}10{#/blank#}. He had given his life for his friends. What a faithful friend!

    We can't stop an earthquake，but we can do things to make sure they don't destroy (毁坏) whole cities. First，it is not a {#blank#}1{#/blank#}idea to build houses along lines where {#blank#}2{#/blank#}of the earth's plates (板块) join together. Second，if you think there {#blank#}3{#/blank#}be an earthquake，it is better to build houses on rocks， not on {#blank#}4{#/blank#}Third， you must make the houses as {#blank#}5{#/blank#}as possible. Weak buildings will {#blank#}6{#/blank#}down in an earthquake，but strong ones may stay up.

    Scientists are {#blank#}7{#/blank#}that one day an even bigger earthquake will hit the part around San Francisco. They call it “The Big One”. However，people today are still building more {#blank#}8{#/blank#}The population in and around San Francisco is {#blank#}9{#/blank#}ten times more than it was in 1906. This means that {#blank#}10{#/blank#}there is another earthquake，a great many houses and buildings will be destroyed.
