     The kind of beef we see in hamburgers , minced(切碎)beef, was possibly invented by Mongolians over 800 years ago. But who first put the beef between pieces of bread and called it a hamburger? Three different cities in the United States all say that they were the first to invent America's favorite food.

     Some people say that Fletcher Davis, from Athens, invented hamburgers. “Old Dave,”as people called him, was selling minced beef sandwiches in his lunch bar as early as the 1880s. Some years later, they say that a group of Germans called①his sandwich a “hamburger” because people from the German city of Hamburger ate this kind of beef.

     Other people believe that the hamburger came from a different American city.②coincidentally, its name was also Hamburg. The Menches brothers were selling pork sandwiches at a fair in 1885, but when there was no more pork, they used minced beef and gave it a new name, the “hamburger”.

     The third possible inventor of the hamburger was Charlie Nagreen, also known as “Hamburger Charlie,”from Seymour. He said that in 1885 he invented the world's first hamburgers. Seymour now celebrates the invention of the hamburger every year. In 1989, it was the home of the world's largest ever burger—over 2,500kg!

    “I told her it was 9 o'clock and I'd finished my homework, but she didn't listen,” said the 15-year-old boy. “I really couldn't understand her!”

     Do you sometimes feel the same way? A China Youth Daily report said that, according to a survey on 1,500 students, 61% of the students said they felt they weren't able to communicate(交流) with their parents. Besides, 37% of them said they never shared their worries with their parents.

    One of the most important reasons is that students and parents don't have much common ground(共同点). The different ages always lead to different interests.

    Peng Yu, a psychological professor(心理学教授) pointed out another reason. He said when entering puberty(青春期), teenagers begin to have their own thoughts(思想) and want their parents to treat them like adults(成人). But parents don't follow the change.

    He suggested that children should first understand that their parents do everything out of love. “With this in mind, students should try to talk with their parents calmly and often enough,” he said.

    Huang Xinlin, 14, agreed with the advice. She talks with her mum during supper every day and she also helps do the housework. “We talk about everything and even make jokes while sharing housework,” Huang said happily. “We are like friends.”

    Do you clean your school desks every day? If not, then maybe it's about the time for you to get started. Keyboards, computer mice and telephone dials are infected (polluted) with lots of germs(细菌), according to scientists from the University of Arizona, the US.

    The study suggests that office equipment should be regularly cleaned. “Desks are in fact germs' cafeterias(自助餐厅),” said Charles Garbage, a biologist who took part in the study. “They are breakfast bars, lunch tables and everything else.” The desks at your school are probably not different.

    The scientists found that telephones in workplaces have almost 4,000 germs/cm², keyboards 500 and computer mice around 250. The office as a whole contains 4, 750germs/cm².

    When some people catch a cold or flu, they leave germs on the surfaces(表面) they touch during the day. Some flu germs can live on the surface for up to 72 hours, so the germs can easily move to other people. If you're ever wondered why everyone catches the germs when only one student has a cold, now you know the answer.

    Experts in the US last month warned about the spread(传播) of the germs during flu seasons. They reminded Americans to cover their noses and mouths while sneezing, often wash their hands and clean their office desks.

Hand washing is the most important. Killing germs during hand washing is useful only if you clean carefully with soap and water for at least 30 seconds. You should pay close attention to cleaning your thumbs, fingertips and fingernails.

    When you go for a run outside, chances are that you'll find litter (垃圾) all around you. Do you just go past it, or do you stop and pick it up? If you choose the second, you're part of the latest popular sport in the West: plogging.

    The word "plogging" puts the Swedish phrase "plocka upp" (pick up) and the English word "jogging" (running slowly) together.

    What a plogger needs is a rubbish bag and a pair of gloves (手套)to protect your hands. While collecting rubbish, ploggers learn to classify (分类) and deal with it correctly, too.

    ①Plogging seems simple but it does a lot of good to both the environment'(环境) and your health. It can not only make the world greener, but also get you exercise, for example, a 30-minute plogging burns around 288 calories (卡路里),compared to 235 calories burned from just jogging.
