The snow lasted until last Friday. I opened the window this morning and saw the sun but I felt much colder.

    I thought him right and agreed. It would take me about forty minutes to get to my hospital. There was about an hour left, so I started, with a bag of sandwich for breakfast. In the streets there was thick snow and ice and the traffic was less than before and people walked carefully. Suddenly I saw a car going fast. The driver tried to pass the crossing before the lights turned red. Maybe he didn't see two boys in the middle of the street. His car knocked down one boy and stopped just in front of the police box.

    People crowded around the boy at once. I rushed out of the gathering crowd(聚集的人群) and was going to look him over. But a man pushed me aside and said, “Step back, please. I^'ve had a course in first aid.”

    I had to stand and watch his ministrations(救助) for a few minutes. Then I said to him, “When you need a doctor, sir, I'm already here.”

    Jill Jones got a new job in a different part of the city. She had to go to work every day by train.

    There was only one other person on the train with her. He was a well-dressed man reading a newspaper. Suddenly, about halfway through the journey, the man began tearing（撕） his newspaper into hundreds of small pieces. Then he picked them up, opened the window and threw them all out.     The well-dressed man smiled. "There is a simple reason," he said. "I like to sleep for part of the journey, but I cannot sleep if the train is full of elephants. So I throw the pieces of paper out to the elephants. It stops them from coming into the train."

    "But there aren't any elephants on the train," Jill said. "I know," the man said. "It works well, doesn't it?

    Jia Zuosheng, 27, used to work as a security guard (保安) at the library of Tsinghua University. But a few months ago, he became a college student in Lishan College in Shandong and he studies math there now. When hearing this news, many people were surprised. On school opening day, many reporters waited outside the school gate to interview him.

"I was born in a poor village in Shandong Province," said Jia. "Our village has never had a college student. Most boys work in town after growing up. I failed the National College Entrance Exam（高考）twice. Then I went to Beijing to find jobs. In the following years, I went on studying by myself while working."

At the end of 2009, Jia found a job as a security guard at the library of Tsinghua University."I cherished (珍惜) the job very much because it gave me a good chance to read books," Jia said."I usually worked at night so I had plenty of time to study in the daytime." When he had problems that he couldn't work out, Jia asked the students at Tsinghua for help. "My dream is to be a college teacher. So I need further education. That's the reason why I took the National College Entrance Exam again," Jia said. "I wish to educate students with my knowledge and love and help them enjoy true, kind and beautiful things."

Jia's mother said Jia has always been independent（独立的）and knows what he wants. But she has other worries. "It's difficult to find such a good job at present as a library guard in Tsinghua University. I'm not sure if this is a right decision." "I will never regret(后悔），"said Jia. "Everyone will have a new start. It's the end, and the beginning."

    Tim Berners­Lee is not the most famous inventor in the world. However, his invention has changed our lives. He was born in London, England in 1955.When he was a small boy, Tim was interested in playing with electrical things. He studied science at Oxford University. He made his first computer from an old television at the age of 21.Tim started working on early computers. At that time, they were much bigger than now. He worked in England then Switzerland. Tim was really interested in two things, computers and how the brain works. How could the brain connect so many facts so quickly? He had to work with people all over the world. They shared information about computers. It was hard to manage all the information. He answered the same questions again and again. It took a lot of time. It was even difficult for computers in the same office in Switzerland to share information. Tim also forgot things easily. Could a computer work like a brain? Could it “talk” to other computers?

    There was an Internet already but it was difficult to use. In 1989, Tim Berners­Lee invented the World Wide Web (WWW) all by himself. This had a special language that helped computers talk to each other on the Internet. When people wanted to share information with others, they used the World Wide Web. The Internet grew quickly after that.

    Tim Berners­Lee doesn't think he did anything special. He says that all of the ideas about the Internet were already there. All he did was to put them together. He says that many other people worked together to make the Internet what it is today. Most inventors want to become rich. But Tim gave away the World Wide Web for nothing. He now works in America. He helps people share technology and wants the Internet to be free for everyone to use. Maybe he is the most important but least famous inventor in the world today!
