Anne is a newspaper reporter. She chose this 1 so she could travel around the world. The work has taught her many unforgettable lessons. She has seen wars, earthquakes and death. But she has 2 seen courage, hope and happiness.

    Last year, she won an award for her reporting in Africa. She was very proud 3 it. At first, she thought she got the award because of her good work. But then she realized that she should thank many other people for 4 help.

    Anne was born in Jamaica. Her family was not poor, but it was not 5, either. Her parents had to 6 hard so that she could go to school. At school, Anne was not a good student, 7 she enjoyed writing because her English teacher said, "Anne, you are a wonderful 8." The teacher encouraged her all the time.

    Later, Anne went to university in Canada and then 9 for a job. It was very difficult. Then, one day, she went to see the editor of a newspaper in Ottawa. The editor gave her a job. "Everyone needs a 10 at first." He said.

I'm enjoying my staying in Canada. It is my first experience of studying abroad, and I am trying to 1  as much as possible. Classes here are much more fun and very different from classes in 2  . There are very few chances to practise 3  and listening in China, so although many Chinese students have good 4  , their speaking is not good. Studying English at Fern is much more practical. We actually 5  the language we are learning. I couldn't speak any English at all when I arrived here. 6 after about a month, the situation changed. Things started getting 7  and I made friends and started to settle in(安顿下来). I am really 8  to learn English here and Fern is a very good language school.

I have always wanted to have a sister. In my Canadian host family my dream has 9 . On the first day when I arrived, my host family welcomed 10  warmly. All the family members were 11  and helpful, and they made me feel at home at once.

My " 12 " , Joise, is very kind. She often explains their manners to me. Her mother explains ordinary things like housework. Together they 13  me to study and understand Canada. Joise told me a 14  . Last year, she met a Chinese student on a plane. She said she felt sorry 15 she did not say anything to the girl.

I'm happy to live in Canada. I think it will be an important experience in my life.

I'm a bit of an airplane fan. For the past few years, I {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (have) many model planes on my desk at work. You can imagine my joy when I had the chance to experience the first flight ofC919 jet yesterday. Luckily, I got one just before the tickets {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (sell) out. 

Before boarding, I found that almost every one of the 160 {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (passenger) walked around the plane to celebrate this historic moment. They got more excited {#blank#}4{#/blank#} ever before and some began to take selfies (自拍) . {#blank#}5{#/blank#} happy they were! 

The {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (excite) continued on board as the C919 took off. A special breakfast {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (serve): Shanghai noodles, some White Rabbit milk {#blank#}8{#/blank#} a special dessert with a "World's First C919" logo on it. It was a pretty short flight, about 2. 5 hours from Shanghai to Chengdu. Soon we landed at our destination, and we cheered {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (loud). Almost everyone seemed overjoyed to have taken part in such a proud moment for China. 

Now I‘m looking forward to {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (see) what new planes COMAC (中国商飞公司) has planned for the future. I can't wait to see them take on Airbus and Boeing! 

Last month, I met a homeless dog when I had a walk with my mother in the park. 1 dog looked dirty and weak with a thin body. I tried to go to him with some food. He shook (摇) his tail and ran 2 toward me. But when he saw 3 mother, he ran away in fear.

I began to pay attention to homeless pets 4 that. Each year, our city has 250,000 homeless 5 and the number has been increasing. What should we do to solve this serious problem? Firstly, the government should pass a law 6 homeless pets. Secondly, , charities (慈善机构) need to 7 money for more shelters (收容所). For the animals living in shelters, we need to provide food 8 medical care.

The problem of homeless pets will change for the 9 if we can work together to create a good world for them. As for me, I will 10 my mother to let me raise a homeless dog this summer. What are you going to do?

There once lived a bird and her two new- born babies in a forest. One day, there was a big storm. There was thunder lightning and rain and the wind blew down many trees. The tall tree in which the birds lived also came down. A big, heavy branch hit the nest and killed the mother bird. Fortunately for the baby birds, the strong wind blew them away to the other side of the forest. One of them came down near a cave where a gang of robbers(强盗) lived. The other landed outside a wise man's ashrama little distance away.

Days passed and the baby birds became big birds. One day, the king of the country came to the forest to hunt. He saw a deer and rode after it. It ran deep into the forest followed by the king. Soon the king lost his way.

He rode on for a long time till he came to the other side of the forest. Very tired by now, he got off his horse and sat down under a tree that stood near a cave. Suddenly he heard a voice cry out," Ouick! Hurry up! There's someone under the tree. Come and take his jewels and his horse. Hurry or else he'll slip away." The king was amazed. He looked up and saw a big, brown bird on the tree under which he was sitting. He also heard faint noises coming from the cave. He quickly got on to his horse and rode away as fast as he could.

Soon, he came to a clearing which looked like an ashram. It was the wise man's ashram. The king tied his horse to a tree and sat down. Suddenly he heard a gentle voice announce," Welcome, Sir. Please go inside and rest. The host will be back soon. Come and make yourself comfortable." The king looked up and saw a big, brown bird. He was amazed." This one looks like the other bird outside the cave," he said to himself.

Later the wise man came back." Welcome, Sir," he said to the king." Please come inside. You look tired. Rest for a while. Then you can share my food."

The king told the wise man the story of the two birds and how each had behaved so differently though they looked so alike." The forest is full of surprises," he said.

The wise man smiled and said," After all, one is known by the company one keeps.    That bird has always heard the talk of robbers. He talks about robbing people. This one has repeated what he has always heard. He welcomes people to the ashram."
