For many people the subject of hiccups (嗝) is a joke, but for Harry Mendes, a fifteen-year-old schoolboy from Birmingham, it was something quite different.
His hiccups began one Sunday lunch time and continued day and night for two weeks. After the first week, Harry's parents took him to hospital, but it took another week for the doctors to cure his attack.
Harry, who is now back at school, described what happened to him.“When I began to hiccup, I drank a glass of water but that didn't do any good. That evening I had hiccups every four seconds. We tried everything to stop them. I held my breath and drank cold drinks. My father even tried to give me a shock but that didn't work either.”
After a week of sleepless nights, he went to hospital. The doctors took an X-ray of his chest but they couldn't find anything wrong.“They gave me some medicine and my hiccups slowed down, but it was another week before the medicine worked completely and my hiccups stopped.”
Harry was very lucky. The world record holder is the American farmer Charles Osborne, who hiccupped for sixty-eight years. He stopped in 1990 at last, but nobody knows why.

Not everyone is born smart or good at sports. But everyone can study to become smarter and train to get better at sports. Science shows that anyone can get better skills.

Your brain is made up of billions of neurons(神经元). They are all connected and send messages to each other. Scientists have found that when we learn, neurons make new connections and old connections grow stronger. But if connections aren't used, they will break down. So learning is like exercise for your brain.

A mindset is a way of thinking. Some people have a fixed mindset. They think they are either smart or stupid and they will stay that way forever. Other people have a growth mindset and they think they can learn and get better.

According to Dr. Carol Deck's studies, people with a fixed mindset worry about grades. They're afraid of looking stupid when they make mistakes and try to find different ways of solving problems. They ask for help when necessary. In only two years, babies learn to walk, talk and feed themselves. They never worry about looking stupid when learning. If they make mistakes, they just try again.

Deck's team discovered that kids can choose to have a growth mindset. They can do better in school. So notice what mindset you have. If you ever think yourself stupid, it's not true. You just have not learned how to do something yet.

 根据短文内容,从短文后所给的选项中,选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。

ChatGPT is back in the headlines! OpenAI, the company behind the popular chatbot, has now introduced a powerful new language: GPT-4.

Several months ago, GPT-4 showed the world how smarter it is than the previous (先前的) GPT-3.5. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}For example, if you show a picture of a phone using the wrong charger, GPT-4 can tell why the picture looks strange or funny.

But GPT-4's developments are far more than that. The new language model can code (用代码编写) classic games in only a few minutes, and it also can produce the code and layouts (布局) for a website with a hand-made drawing. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} According to some scientists, GPT-4 did really well on a school test, with a score in the top 10 percent of test takers. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}

GPT-4 will also be widely used in other apps and services. For example, the language learning app Duolingo plans to use GPT-4 in their Duolingo Max Function. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}Another app, Be My Eyes, will have a digital assistant to help blind people understand the world around them.

{#blank#}5{#/blank#}GPT4 still can't get completely correct answers sometimes, especially with newer information after September 2021. GPT-4 also sometimes "hallucinates (产生幻觉)", it means that GPT-4 will think the wrong information is true.

A. GPT-4 is very popular to young people.

B. App users can learn language by talking with AI.

C. But GPT-3.5 only got a score in the bottom 10 percent.

D. There are still some problems with GPT-4, however.

E. You don't need to pay anything when you use GPT-4.

F. One of its advantages is that it can understand pictures.

G. GPT-4 is also much better than the older GPT at taking tests.
