What do you do if you're stranded(处于困境的)on a lonely island? Surely you need to find a way to get in touch with the outside world. Your best chance of doing this is to draw the attention of a passing plane.
  Body signals(信号)
Pilots from different countries understand body signals if they have the correct training. When you wave your arms up and down in a straight line, it means "yes". When you point downwards and swing your arm from side to side, it means "no". If you want the pilot to know that it's safe to land, push your hands out in front of you and bend(弯曲)your knees. If you want to say that it's not safe to land, put your arms in the air and move them to one side.
  Smoke signals
The smoke from a fire can be seen from far away, so it's a good way to draw attention. If the weather is dry, it isn't hard to start a fire. Remember, however, that fires can be very dangerous if they get out of control. Never light a fire unless you're sure that it can't spread. If the ground is dark, light smoke can be seen more easily. Green grass and leaves produce light smoke.
  Ground-to-air signals
It's a good idea to build some signals, too. Use large pieces of wood to make the symbols(标记). If you can't find any wood, use earth. Some useful symbols are:
F "I need food and water."
  II "I need medicine."
  I "I am badly hurt."
X" I am unable to move from here."
  Pilots' replies
If the pilot lowers the plane's wings from side to side, this means "message received and understood". (At night, the pilot flashes the plane's green lights.) If the pilots flies the plane in a clockwise circle, this means "message received but not understood".(At night, the pilot flashes the plane's red lights.)
However, there is no signal which means "message not received". Why not?

(1)、Which picture means "it's not safe land"?

A、 B、 C、 D、
(2)、What can we learn from the passage?

A、Swinging your arm from side to side means "yes". B、If the ground is dark, light smoke can't be seen. C、If you need some medicine, make a symbol "II". D、The pilots make replies with a blue light at night.
(3)、What is the passage mainly about?

A、The explanation of building signals on an island. B、The importance of making signals on an island. C、Ways of sending out signals on a lonely island. D、Ways of receiving signals from a lonely island
举一反三
From old times, India has been a good friend of China. The two big Asian countries now work more closely on border problems, trade (贸易) and IT.
India is an interesting and mysterious( 神秘的)country with a long history. Around 2,000 BC, Indian civilization (文明) was born. It is one of the four oldest civilizations in the world.India is also the birthplace of  Buddhism (佛教).A famous  Chinese novel, "A Journey to the West", is about a Chinese monk (和尚) who tried very hard to learn about Buddhism from India.
The book comes from a true story. Xuanzang, a Buddhist monk was sent to India by the King of the Tang Dynasty. After many years, he brought back lots of Buddhist books. The name "India" was first used by Xuanzang in his work.
Today, religion(宗教) is still an important part of Indian culture. There are many religions there. Most Indian people believe in Hinduism (印度教).In India, cows are very special animals because  Hinduism  says they are holy (神圣的). So Indians don't sell or eat beef.Like China,
India is a developing  country with a large population(人口). It has  about 1.03 billion people compared to China's 1.3  billion.  More than two thirds of  Indians still live a poor life in the countryside.
India has no birth control so its population is growing fast. By 2030, India could even have more people than China.
Hindi (印地语) is the mother tongue of Indian people. But Britain took India in 1757 and stayed there until 1947. Because of this, English slowly became the other official  language.

Space travel is nothing new. The first spacecraft with a human was sent up into space in 1961. Since then, people have not only traveled to space, but also many of them have lived there in space stations for some time.
The Soviet Union(前苏联) sent the first space station into space in 1971. This space station was called Salyut 1. Salyut 1 was designed as a place where people could live while they observed space and did experiments. The first group of astronauts lived there for 23 days. The Soviet Union went on to make seven more Salyut space stations. At about the same time, the United States built its own space station, called Skylab.
Astronauts visited and often lived in these space stations for a short time. However, it wasn't until the late 1980s when The Soviet Union sent the Mir space station that people began to live in space for a longer time. Mir stayed in space from 1989 until 2001, when it was decided that the space station was too old and no longer safe to live in.
Living in space stations seems to be fun, but astronauts face many problems. One of them is food. All the meals on space station are put together on Earth and sent there by space shuttle. Because the food has to last a long time (sometimes up to three months), a lot of it has to be stored in cans. The space station does not have a fridge, but it has a cool room to keep fruit and vegetables fresh. Astronauts also eat many other foods such as dried meat that do not need special care.
Without the help of gravity, sitting down to eat can be tough. Astronauts sometimes have to fix themselves to the wall while eating. They also have to be very careful to that food does not float away.

Choose the best answer.

    Renminbi is on the rise

Ye Li plans to study abroad after she finishes high school in summer. It will cost her parents a large sum of money. But as the value of the Chinese yuan has been rising in the last few months, the girl is happy to find she will need much less money.

One US dollar used to buy 8.28 yuan Renminbi(RMB) in 2004. But by last Tuesday the number had fallen to 6.77. That means Ye's tuition fee(学费) at $ 20, 000 will cost her 30200 yuan less.

    What are exchange rates?

The amount of RMB that one dollar can buy is called the exchange rate(汇率) between the RMB and US dollar. There are exchange rates between most countries. They show the rate at which one currency(货币) can be exchanged for another.

The rates are decided by the different prices of the same product in countries. These change every day. A currency will become more expensive when demand(需求) for it is greater. As more and more countries have begun to trade(做贸易) with China in recent years, the RMB is in great demand, which has made its value go up.

The other side of the coin

A more expensive RMB is good for people like Ye. Chinese people can get more foreign currencies while exchanging with their money. They can buy more imported food, clothes, and cars. It also makes it cheaper to travel abroad.

But it is not good for Chinese exporters(出口商) , like clothing sellers. A S1 export will bring in less yuan.

What's more, Chinese clothing sells well abroad because of its low prices. Now a made-in-China T-shirt will cost foreigners more. There may be fewer foreigners who will buy Chinese products.
