Have successful people ever felt sad? Do they have any “secrets” to success? The answers to these questions can be found in US president Barack Obama's “back to school” speech. Here is an excerpt(摘录) from his speech.
I know that sometimes, you get the sense that you can be rich and successful without any hard work—that your ticket to success is through rapping (饶舌音乐) or basketball or being a TV star, when chances are, you're not going to be any of those things.
But the truth is, being successful is hard. You won't love every subject you study. Not all the homework will seem completely important to your life right this minute. And you may not succeed at everything the first time you try.
That's OK. Some of the most successful people in the world are the ones who've had the most failures. JK Rowling's first Harry Potter book was turned down 12 times before it finally came out. Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team, and he lost hundreds of games and missed thousands of shots (投篮) during his career. But he once said, “I have failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”
These people succeeded because they understand that you can't let your failures beat you—you have to let them teach you. You have to let them show you what to do differently next time.
No one's born being good at things. You become good at things through hard work.
Don't be afraid to ask questions. Don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it. I do that every day. Asking for help isn't a sign of weakness; it's a sign of strength. It shows you have the courage to admit(承认) when you don't know something, and to learn something new.
And even when you're struggling, even when you're discouraged (泄气), and you feel like other people have given up on you—don't ever give up on yourself. Because when you give up on yourself, you give up on your country.

(1)、 Why does Barack Obama mention (提到) JK Rowling and Michael Jordan in the fourth paragraph?

A、To compare these two famous persons. B、To explain that writing and sports are difficult skills. C、To show that the two persons were treated unfairly. D、To prove that failure is the mother of success.
(2)、Which of the following statements is NOT true?

A、No one can be successful without working hard. B、Failure can be good if you treat it in a right way. C、Those who believe in themselves shouldn't ask others for help. D、One should try his best to make his dream come true.
(3)、Which of the following is the closest in meaning to the underlined sentence?

A、One should change his mind when others give honest advice to him. B、One should believe in himself no matter what difficulty he is faced with. C、One doesn't have to work hard when he has failed several times. D、One doesn't have to take others' advice when they get away from him.

It is said that the eyes are the windows of our soul. Beautiful and bright eyes not only show a good health but also make you look very attractive. However, to have healthy eyes you have to look after them properly. Your eyes need everyday attention.
Pay more attention to your diet. First, eat food that is good for your eyes. They are fresh fruits and vegetables as fish, eggs, and milk. Besides, a regular amount of vitamins A and B2 should also be taken.
A regular and sound sleep is a must. It relaxes the eye muscles(肌肉)and gives them the rest required. Sleep not only helps the body to repair its tired tissues (组织). Usually, you must sleep for at least seven to eight hours every day. Loss of sleep can give you dark circles under the eye.
You must exercise your eyes every day. Blink (眨眼) yours eyes at regular periods, which makes the eyeballs watery, and gives them a good wash.
We use our eyes in many unnoticeable and wrong ways. Fox example, if a small thing goes into our eye we start rubbing it, which is wrong. Rubbing can cause damage(伤害) to your eyes. Don't read or write in poor or bright sunlight. Always use sunglasses as sunlight can cause eye tiredness. Light should not shine directly in your eyes. Too much reading, writing, watching television or working on the computer can also cause eye tiredness.
Remember to always take care of God's most beautiful gift to you. Your life will be very colorless without your eyes.

Do you believe that only boys do well in science? Does it seem that girls have better language skills than boys? In your opinion, are boys better at building things? If your answer to each of those questions is" Yes", you are right, according to an article in Current Science. There are exceptions(例外),but here are the facts.

Usually, boys score higher in tests about math, while girls do better in tests about words, spelling and memory. But these differences may not always be true. In the future, a person's abilities may not be decided by sex. As one scientist says, "Nothing is impossible for a person to be or do."

A recent study by Jerome Kagan, a scientist at Harvard University is studying the watching ability of children who are 10 months old. Baby boys and baby girls are watching "show" while seated on their mothers' laps. In Act One of the show, an orange-colored ball is lifted from a blue box and moved slowly. Then it is returned to the box. This is repeated six times. Act Six is almost the same, except that the orange ball is smaller. Baby boys do not seem to notice the difference in the size of the ball, but girls immediately become excited and begin to make noises that sound like language.

It's also known that baby girls usually talk at an earlier age than baby boys do. Scientists believe that the left side of the brain develops faster in girls than in boys. As a result, by the time they start to go to school, little girls have an advantage that boys don't have, but what have the boys been doing in the years before starting school? They have been developing something called aggression. An aggressive person feels strong and independent. He is often the first one to start a fight. It is said that aggression is caused by hormones(荷尔蒙). Scientists believe that hormones are not the only cause. They say aggression in boys is also caused by mothers.
