Eric Liddell was known as the flying Scotsman（苏格兰人）because he ran so fast. But he is most remembered as a man of honor and bravery.

 He was born in 1902 in Tianjin, north China. In Chinese, he was known as Li Airui. Eric lived in China until the age of five. After that his parents sent him to school in England. In 1920, Eric went to the University of Edinburgh to study science.

Sports played a large part in his life and he became the fastest runner in Scotland. He was chosen to be part of Britain's 1924 Olympic team. The games were in Paris. The 100-meter race was his best event, but it was to be held on a Sunday. Eric, a strong Christian（基督徒），refused to run on Sundays because he believed that it should be a day of rest as the Bible（圣经）teaches.

 Although many people told him to run the race, he refused. Instead he started to train for other distances. At the Olympics he won a bronze medal in the 200-meter race and then a gold medal in the 400-meter race, setting a world record.

 Though then famous in Scotland, Eric still loved and remembered China. He wanted to go back to the country where he was born. In 1925, he went to China and worked as a middle school teacher in Tianjin. Then he went to Hebei Province to help the poor people there.

 After the Japanese invaded（入侵）China, Eric chose to stay. He wanted to help the sick and give hope to the Chinese people. In 1943, the Japanese sent him to a prison camp（集中营）in Weifang. Even in the camp, he continued to help the old people. He also arranged games for the children, and taught them science.

 In 1945, Eric was very ill. He was given a chance to leave the camp but he refused. Instead he gave this chance to a pregnant woman. This inspiring man died six months before the end of the war. Many people still remember his service to the Chinese people of that area.

    Mo Yan was born in 1955 in Gaomi, Shandong. His real name is Guan Moye. Mo Yan is his pen name. It means “no speaking”. Mo Yan's parents are farmers.

    When he was young, Mo Yan had to leave school and start to work, first as a farmer and then in a factory. In 1979 he married Du Qinlan. Two years later, their only daughter Guan Xiaoxiao was born. Xiaoxiao likes literature (文学) very much. She is a famous writer like her father.

    In 1981, Mo Yan's first novel (小说) Falling Rain on a Spring Night came out. His works — Red Sorghum Clan, The Republic of Wine, Big Breasts and Wide Hips, Life and Death Are Wearing Me Out and Frog are very famous. Mo Yan won many prizes (奖). In 2012, he won the Nobel Prize in Literature.

    If you love reading books, you must know about the book The Little Prince. It's a famous novel written by a French writer. As one of the best-selling books in history, it has been sold as many as 200 million copies in 253 languages and dialects(方言). Now, around seventy years after the birth of the book, an American director has found a way to make it into a 3D animated film(动画片).

    The book tells the story of a pilot, called The Aviator, who crashes(撞击) into the desert and meets a young prince there. However, in the film, the story starts years after the crash when The Aviator is much older. He has got a new neighbor called The Little Girl, whose mother wants her to get ready to enter the grown-up world. Slowly The Aviator shares his story with The Little Girl by writing it down and sending her a page at a time. The pages are complete with the pictures in the book, speaking about his time in the desert and taking The Little Girl to an amazing world where anything is possible.

    China is the first country in the world to see the film in two versions—in Chinese and English. The film shows The Little Girl's life and tells The Little Prince's story at the same time in a beautiful way.

    Huang Lei, who voices the film together with his 9-year-old daughter, says the film is like a childhood dream which is lost by most adults in this stressed-out society.

    "The most touching part is that every one of us was a good-natured kid like the Little Prince, and it's a pity that this good characteristic(品质) goes away as time flies," he says.

On a winter afternoon, my friends and I were throwing stones onto the roof of an old lady's house. The old lady was my customer(顾客) on the newspaper route. We just wanted to see how the stones rolled off the roof's edge (边缘). I found an exactly smooth rock and threw it out, but it 1 into a small window of the old lady's house. At the sound of broken glass, we knew we were in trouble. We ran home fast. I was so 2 about getting caught that first night. However, a few days later I started to feel guilty (内疚的) for her bad luck. She 3 greeted me with a smile when I gave her the newspaper, but I was no longer able to act comfortably. I made up my mind that I would save my newspaper delivery money, and in three weeks I had seven dollars. I put the money in an envelope with a 4 explaining that I was sorry for breaking her window and hope that the seven dollars would cover the cost for repairing it. I waited until it was 5 , and put the letter I didn't sign into her yard. The next day, I 6 the old lady her newspaper. She thanked me for my paper and gave me a bag of cookies she had made herself. While eating cookies, I felt an envelope and pulled it out of the bag. After opening it. Inside were the seven dollars and a short note saying, "I'm proud of you."
