If you enjoy reading, don't miss Shakespeare and Company when you visit Paris. It's a famous English-language bookstore. An American, Sylvia Beach, opened the first Shakespeare and Company in history in 1919. She did more than selling books. Her bookstore was also a library, and she even had beds for writers visiting there. Ms Beach was not only kind to people but also good at choosing books, so her bookstore was often visited by writers like Ernest Hemingway and James Joyce. But in 1941, after the Germans took power in Paris, Ms Beach had to close her bookstore.

    In 1951, another American, George Whitman, opened another English-language bookstore, Le Mistral, in Paris. Since then, just as Ms Beach did, Mr Whitman had also made his bookstore a library for people to borrow books, and a free hotel for writers to stay in. To remember Ms Beach, Mr Whitman changed the name of his bookstore to Shakespeare and Company in 1964, two years after Ms Beach died.

    Hello! My name is Judy. I'm a student. I have three teachers. They are Miss Sun, Ms. Wood and Mr. Chen. And they teach (教) us English, Chinese and art (美术). Miss Sun is from Shanghai. She is my art teacher. She is pretty. She is 1.65 metres tall. Ms. Wood is from Canada. She is 1.75 metres tall. She has short, brown hair. Her eyes are small and blue. Mr. Chen is my Chinese teacher. He is from China. He is wearing a white shirt and a pair of blue pants. He has small eyes. They are good teachers. I like them.

    As a child, Alain Robert was afraid of heights. One day, when he was 12, he returned home from school. He didn't find his keys. It was 3:30pm and his parents worked until 6：00 pm. Alain looked at his apartment on the eighth floor. He saw an open window. He closed his eyes and imagined himself climbing the building. When he opened his eyes, he told himself, "I can do it." Fifteen minutes later, he was in his house and his fear of heights was gone.

    Today, Alain still climbs buildings. In 2003, he climbed a building in London dressed as Spiderman (蜘蛛人) to advertise the movie. In 2004, he climbed Taipei 101 (one of the tallest buildings in the world). To reach the top of a building, Alain uses only his hands and special shoes.

    Alain climbs as a hobby. He also does it to make money for charity (for poor children and the homeless). When he climbs, he wants to send a message to people. If you have a dream, you must be brave and keep trying. If something bad happens, don't give up. Close your eyes and tell yourself, "I can do it."

    She used to sleep on the sidewalk of the Fifth Street Post Office. I could smell her before I came close. She wore dirty clothes and her mouth was nearly toothless. I hardly saw her talk with others. If she was not asleep, she talked to herself. I always had sympathy for her. What a poor old lady! She must be desperate (感到绝望的)and hungry.

    One Thanksgiving, we had lots of food left over. I thought about the old lady. She might be still hungry. So I packed the food up and drove over to the Fifth Street.

    It was a cold night. There was hardly anyone out. But I knew she would stay at the same place and I would find her easily.

    There she was, squatted against a fence near the post office. She was dressed as she always was.

    I drove my car over to her, rolled down the window and said, "I've brought you some food. Would you like some turkey and apple pie？"

    However, the old woman didn't seem to be very excited about this. She looked at me and said quite clearly, "Oh, thank you very much, but someone has given me food earlier and I'm quite full now. Why don't you take it to someone else who needs it？"

    Her words were clear and her manners were gracious. Soon her head sank into her arms again. I was the only person who didn't know what to say. An old lady who was clearly down on her luck still thought about others. Why don't more of us do that？

    Today is Sunday. It's warm. It's four o'clock in the afternoon. Jack and Simon are at home. They are twin(双胞胎)brothers. They want to play basketball, so they take their basketball and a bag, and then go to the playground(操场).Jack puts the bag under a big tree and opens it, but he can't find his sports clothes(衣服).There're only Simon's.
