There once lived a rich businessman who had a lazy son. The businessman wanted his son to realize the value of labor.

    One day, he told his son, "Today, I want you to earn something. If you fail, you won't have your meal tonight."

    The boy didn't want to find a job, so he asked his mother for help. She gave him a gold coin. In the evening, when the father asked his son what he had earned, the son showed him the gold coin. The father then asked him to throw it into the well (水井). The son did as he was told.

    The father guessed that the gold was from the boy's mother. The next day, he sent his wife to her parents' home and asked his son to earn something. Since no one helped him, the son had to go to the market to look for a job. A shopkeeper told him that he would pay him a coin if he carried heavy tools for him. The son accepted. As he returned home and gave the coin to his father, he was asked to throw it into the well. The boy cried, "Dad! My body is aching. I'm tired. How are you asking me to throw my hard-carned coin into a well?"

    The businessman smiled. He told his son that one feels pain only when the fruits of labor are wasted. The son realized the value of hard work. He promised not to be lazy any more.

    She was a poor child, but proud and arrogant（傲慢的）, and people said she was nothing but rude and impolite. When but a very little child, she had pleasure in catching flies to pull off their wings, stick them on a pin and watch them try to get off it.

    As Inger grew up she became even worse instead of better. She was very pretty, and that increased her arrogance. "You'll bring misfortune down upon you," said her own mother to her. "As a little child you often used to break things, and when you're older, I fear you'll break my heart." And she really did. Then she was sent into the town to be in the service of a rich family. They treated her as kindly as if she would have been their daughter and dressed her so well that she looked more beautiful.

    When she had been there for about a year, her mistress（女主人） said to her, "You are supposed to go back and visit your parents, little Inger." So she went, but only because she wanted to show them how fine she had become. When she reached the village, and saw her poor mother resting herself on a stone nearby, with a number of firewood. Inger turned away.

    Another year went by. "You must go and visit your old parents," said her mistress." Here's white bread for them." So Inger put on her new shoes, and walked carefully so that her shoes would stay clean and neat. When she came to somewhere dirty, she threw the bread on the ground and use it as a steppingstone to get across. But once she stepped on it, the bread went down quickly, carrying with the girl into the deep.

    Soon nothing could be seen but a black pool!

    Gabriel Garcia Márquez ,who was awared the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1982，passed away at the age of 86 on April 17，2014. The world paused to remember the cultural giant.

    Garcia Márquez was born in Colombia, but he spent most of his adult life in Mexico City. As one of the most famous writers, he was widely regarded as "a giant of 20th-century literature".     Garcia Márquez is best known for his 1967 novel, One Hundred Years of Solitude, which has sold about 50 million copies. It tells the tale of the small and isolated town of Macondo which was separated from the outside world –of its founding and its troubled history over a hundred years. The story is a metaphor for the development of Colombia since the 19century. As Colombian President Juan Manuel Santons said, Garcia Márquez wrote about "the very essence of the Latin American beings ".

    There are many kinds of love. For me there is a kind of unusual love, which I call "soft love". Both my parents love me very much. Now I'd like to thank my father for giving me so much soft love. He has his own way to communicate with me.

    My father works at a university as a teacher. He is very strict with his students. He puts his heart into his work. All of his students love him. At home he is both a good husband and a good father. He is strict with me, too, so I am afraid of him. There is one thing that I will never forget.

    At the end of last term, my scores were lower than ever before, so I was very worried about it. My father came to my room and saw the report card. At that time, I was afraid that my father would be angry with me. But to my surprise, he left the room without any words. I couldn't help crying.

    The next day, when I got up, I found a letter. I opened it, and it was written by my father, "Dear daughter, I know that studying is hard work, but you won't give it up, will you? I believe that you can be the best. Now I want to give you some pieces of advice: ⒈Where there is a will, there is a way. ⒉Practice makes perfect. ⒊It's no use crying over spilt milk."     Roald Dahl was one of the most successful writers of children's books. He sold millions of books all over the world. Many of his books have been made into films and videos. He is so famous that there is even a Roald Dahl Museum you can visit.

    Roald Dahl was born in 1916 in Wales, Britain. His father was rich but he died when Roald was very young. Roald and his mother lived a hard life. He had to leave school and went to Africa where he worked for an oil company.

    In 1939, Roald became a pilot, but he had a bad accident. It made him limp(瘸的)for the rest of his life. After this, Roald went to America where he wrote a story about his experience as a pilot. It was so good that it was put in a magazine.

    Roald married an American film star. They bought a house in England and had five children. From 1960 to 1965, ：Theo, one of his children, was hit by a taxi and was seriously hurt. Oliva, one of Roald's daughters, died of a strange illness. Soon after this, his wife also had a serious illness. It took her years to get completely better.

    Gradually Roald became more and more successful. He always did his writing in an old shed(棚)at the back of his house. He always sat in the same old armchair with a wooden board on his lap.

    "One of the nice things about being a writer," he once said, "is that all you need is what you've got in your head and a pencil and a bit of paper."

    In 1983 Roald won a big prize for his book The BFG. During his life, Roald wrote many famous books, such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, Fantastic Mr Fox.

    After he died in 1990, Roald left money to help people with serious illness and those with problems with reading and writing.

    Hello, my name is Peter. I study at a secondary school in England. School days usually start at 9 am in England. So I usually go to school at 8:45 am. School is over at 3:30 pm. So I have much time to go to different clubs(俱乐部).

    I am good at all my lessons. My favourite lesson is cooking. All my teachers are very friendly and helpful. I never(从不) go home for lunch, l have lunch at school with my classmates. After lunch, we often go to the school field. Sometimes we play hall games. Sometimes we just sit under the trees, reading or talking. Sometimes we also go to the Computer Centre 1o listen to music or send emails to our friends.

    I like my school and have a good time at school every day.
