That was a hot summer. When I was five years old just before my sister came to the world， my mother asked me what we  {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(应该)name the new baby. I think for a minute and said， “Let's call her Gravy!”

    You know， we pour gravy over meat and it tastes good! My parents found my idea interesting but at last they named the new baby Caroline， {#blank#}2{#/blank#}（代替）. As soon as I saw Caroline I just {#blank#}3{#/blank#} ( 掉入）in love with her.

     Having a sister {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (改变) my life. When my sister and I played together， we often fought and argued with each other {#blank#}5{#/blank#} （几个）times a week. It made our parents angry. But at the same time， we learned to {#blank#}6{#/blank#}（关心）for each other.

     In North America， there are many kinds of families but most families have {#blank#}7{#/blank#} （超出）one child. Of course， some have three or more. In China， most children don't have brothers or sisters and they often feel {#blank#}8{#/blank#}（孤独的）. Some middle school students in China wish that they had a brother or sister. If you are one of them， I have a good idea for you. You can treat your friends or classmates {#blank#}9{#/blank#}  （当作）your brothers and sisters! You know that the good family {#blank#}10{#/blank#}  (关系) and friendship can lead to a happy life.

    Once when Tom was a boy, his mother went out for a picnic. Before she went, she said to him, "Tom, while I am away, stay near the door, and watch it a{#blank#}1{#/blank#} the time." She said this b{#blank#}2{#/blank#} there were lots of thieves in their town. Tom sat down beside the d{#blank#}3{#/blank#}. After an hour one of his uncles came. He said to Tom," Where is your m{#blank#}4{#/blank#}? "

    "At a picnic," he answered. "Well, " said the uncle, " we are going to visit y{#blank#}5{#/blank#} house this evening. Go and t{#blank#}6{#/blank#} her." His uncle then went a{#blank#}7{#/blank#}, and Tom began to think. "Mother said, 'Watch the door all the time.' and u{#blank#}8{#/blank#} said, 'Go and tell her!'" He thought and t{#blank#}9{#/blank#}, then at last, he pulled the door down, put it on his back and went to his mother w{#blank#}10{#/blank#} it!
