Many animals live here. They are friends. They play together and help each other.

    Mr Lion lives at No. 12, Tree Street. There is a bakery near his home. He likes eating bread. It's five yuan.

    Miss Cat's home is at No. 23, Grass Street. Miss Rabbit's home is next to Miss Cat's home. They are small. They like eating food. A bowl of noodles is four yuan and one packet of sweets is five yuan.

    Mr Monkey and Mr Horse live on Tree Street too. Mr Monkey's home is next to Animal School. Mr Horse's home is near the post office.

    Mrs Green has a little dog. One day the dog is lost, and it's snowing outside. Mrs Green looks for it everywhere but she can't find it. She calls the police. A young policeman answers the phone, "Don't worry, madam.

    Dogs are really strong animals. They can live for several days in the snow and be all right."

    Mrs Green is happy to hear the words. She says, "My dog is very clever. She almost can talk." "Well," the policeman says, "why don't you put your telephone down? Perhaps she is trying to telephone you now."

A naughty boy

    Tom had some bad habits(习惯). He was often late for class. He seldom(很少) cleaned his room. He loved watching TV before he finished his homework. He loved football and often broke(打破) the windows of the neighbours (邻居). His mother was very angry with him. She tried to change his bad habits, but Tom did not listen to her. They sometimes quarreled (争吵) with each other.

    Today Tom came back from the football field. He washed his hands before coming to the dinner table. His mother was very surprised(吃惊的). He told his mother that this was good for his health. He wanted to be a strong football player. He had to be more careful with his health and everything. His mother was very happy to see his change.

    Mike is my cousin. He is from Canada. He likes swimming, playing basketball and climbing mountains. He likes climbing mountains best. He climbed lots of high mountains. He has got a good friend, Tony. Tony likes playing basketball, travelling and collecting stamps. He likes travelling best. Tony and Mike often play basketball together at weekends.

    John's family was very poor. He had three brothers and four sisters. Their parents loved them very much. When he finished middle school, he got a special present from his father. "Many friends got new clothes. Someone got cars as presents, John said. "I ran home and asked my father what present could get. Father got something out of his pocket. Then he gave it to me. It was a coin!"

I was unhappy for a long time. Many years later, after I became the manager of a big computer company, I understand my father. My friends got just clothes or even cars. I got the world. It was the best present.
