Volleyball started in America. In 1895, William G. Morgan blended (融合) basketball, tennis and handball(手球) to make a game for his students. He was a teacher at the Young Men's Christian Association(基督教青年会) in Holyoke, Mass. At first, he just wanted to let the older students in his class exercise. And it was not called volleyball at that time. Now, volleyball is the second most popular sport in America.

Chinese are also good at playing volleyball. The Chinese Women National Volleyball Team is one of the best teams in the world. They got the first place in the Olympic Games three times(1984, 2004 and 2016). In 2019, they won the Wold Cup for the fifth time.

The tallest building in the United States, the One World Trade Center, opened on November 3, 2014 in New York. The building is 1,776 feet tall, making it the 3rd tallest building in the world. It has 104 floors. The building stands in the area where the twin towers of the World Trade Center once stood. On September 11, 2001, a group of terrorists destroyed these twin towers and killed nearly 3,000 people. It took 8 years to build the new One World Trade Center. Does the height of the building in feet reminds you of something in history? The number is the year when the United States declared(宣布) its independence (独立)from Great Britain.

One problem with such a tall building is how to clean the windows. Well, a platform(平台) hangs from ropes, and workers on the platform clean windows. On November 12, while two men were busy cleaning windows, a rope of the platform broke near the 68th floor. The two men were saved by cutting a hole in the glass window.

The two tallest buildings in the world are the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, UAE and the Makkah Royal Clock Tower in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

Social customs (习俗) and ways of behaving change all the time. Things that were considered impolite many years ago are now acceptable. Just a few years ago, it was considered to be impolite behavior for a man to smoke on the street. No man who thought of himself as being a gentleman would make a fool of himself by smoking when a lady was in the room.
Customs also differ from country to country. Does a man walk on the left or the right of a woman in your country? Or doesn't matter? What about table manners (行为)?
The Americans and British people not only speak the same language but also share a large number of social customs. For example, in both America and England, people shake hands when they meet each other for the first time. Also most Englishmen will open a door for a woman or offer their seats to women, and so will most Americans. Promptness (准时) is important both in England and in America. That is, the dinner guest (客人) either arrive close to the time that has been made or calls up to explain his delay (耽误).
The important thing to remember about social customs is not to do anything that might make other people feel uncomfortable —especially if they are your guests. There is an old story about a man who gave a very formal dinner party. When the food was served (服务), one of the guests started to eat his peas with a knife. The other guests were amused or greatly surprised, but the host calmly picked up his knife and began eating in the same way. It would have been bad manners to make his guest feel foolish or uncomfortable.

       Each nation has many good people who help to take care of others．For example，some high school and college students in the U.S.A. often spend many hours as volunteers in the hospitals，orphanages（孤儿院）or rest homes．They read books to the people in these places，or they just visit them and play games with them or listen to their problems．
       Other young volunteers go and work in the homes of people who are sick or old．They paint，clean up or repair their houses，do their shopping or mow（割；修剪）their lawns．For boys who no longer have fathers，there is an organization called Big Brothers．College students and other men take these boys to baseball games or fishing trip and help them get to know things that boys usually learn from their fathers．
       Each city has a number of clubs where boys and girls can go to play games．Some of these clubs show films or organize short trips to the mountains or some places of interest．Most of these clubs use a lot of high school and college students as volunteers because they are young enough to know the problems and needs of young boys and girls．
Volunteers believe that some of the happiest people in the world are those who help to bring happiness to others．

Langshan Mountain, lying in Xinning County, is about 500 kilometers away from Changsha. It is one of China's National Geological Parks and is famous for its special Danxia landform(丹霞地貌).

Covering an area of 108 square kilometers, Langshan Mountain has rich natural scenery and lots of tourism resources. There are more than 60 scenic spots (景点) in Langshan Mountain, among which the most famous are Tianyi Lane(天一巷), Chili Peak(辣椒峰), Bajiao Stronghold(八角寨) and so on.

On August 2nd, 2010, Langshan Mountain was recorded in the World Heritage List(世界遗产名录) and became China's eighth world natural heritage.

Then you can take a taxi to Langshan Mountain. The best time to visit Langshan Mountain is from March to October.
