As the first report of the accident came in, Burton was sitting in his office on tile top floor of the building, Immediately, realizing the seriousness of the whole incident, he moved to a ground floor room with a small waiting-room to look into the matter himself, leaving his second in-command to take over all other cases.

He interviewed the first witness almost at once, making sure that every thing was done that could be done to put him at his ease. However, the witness was obviously nervous and Burton took great pains to go over what he said thoroughly, choosing and checking each word carefully and taking the man's statement down himself. The witness had called the police, and he'd waited until the ambulances began to arrive then. When the first police car arrived on the scene, he'd been asked to report to the station which was what he had done.

Burton explained that regrettably it would be necessary for him to go to court because of the serious nature of the disaster. More he could not say at present. He'd be grateful if the man could keep in touch with the police.

When he had gone, Burton put his head in his hands and considered before asking for the next witness. The man couldn't be regarded as a hundred percent witness because he had been behind a wall when the explosion occurred. But in spite of his nerves, Burton had the impression that he was reliable, not afraid of incriminating himself to it and a fairly accurate observer.

Well, there would be other accounts and no doubt all these would be slotted into place like a jigsaw and the whole picture would become clear. He raised his bead and pressed the buzzer on his desk.

    "Next witness, please." he said.

It was Day 1 of our vacation on Cortes, a beautiful quiet island. "iPhone, iPhone, iPhone," my son kept moaning (呻吟). In front of him was a big window facing the blue ocean. And a cool gentle wind was coming in from the door. Clearly, he saw and felt none of it.

Back at home, I'd soon give up and hand the phone over to him after five minutes of listening to this kind of moaning.

But not here. Before we left, I had told my 10-year-old son the rule—no emails, no Facebook, no video games, and no iPhone. We came here to get away from them all. Here we were on our first day and already, he couldn't stand it.

▲      I walked down the grass road to the beach and looked out to the sea. My 6-year-old daughter and my husband were drawing on pieces of wood. They were doing just fine.

On Day 2, we spent the whole morning digging for shells (贝壳). This time, my son joined us. He collected shellfish and other sea treasures. When we got back to our little wood house, I gave my son a book, and put him on the lovely garden chair. It was almost dinner when he looked up.

The next few days passed in peace.

On Day 6, my son was lying beside me on the beach, watching the sun going down. He was playing with the sand. And there was something shining in his eyes. I realized how time slowed down for both of us. It was exactly what I wanted. Finally, we were able to sit quietly without thinking about screens, phone calls and e-mail.

A week away from all the electronics arid Lile is good.

Rihanna was born in Saint Michael, Barbados in 1988.She grew up there with her two younger brothers. As a child, she loved singing. She formed her first group with two friends from secondary school when she was just fifteen. In 2004 her friends introduced the group to American record producer Evan Rogers, who was on holiday in Barbados. Rogers thought Rihanna could be a big star in America, so she moved there aged sixteen to take up music after she finished school. Rihanna lived with Rogers and his wife. Then she worked for Def Jam Recordings and started working on her first album, Music of the Sun. It came out in 2005 and got into the top ten. Over 69,000 copies of the album were sold in the first week alone. It went on to sell over two million copies worldwide and Rihanna quickly became a big star. Her second album, A Girl Like Me, came out a year later and included the song SOS, which was her first number one hit in America. In 2007 Rihanna brought out her third album, Good Girl Gone Bad, which had more dance music than the first two albums.

Rihanna sold more than fifteen million albums and forty-five million singles worldwide between 2005 and 2010, the most of any artist at the same time. However, she manages to find time for her charity work, too. She has performed in several concerts to raise money for charity and in 2006 she created her Believe Foundation to help sick children. She also took part in Gucci's activities to raise money for children in Africa.
