Everybody has his own hero in mind and is always trying to copy his behaviors in life. As for me, my 1 is just that man. My grandfather had a small farm. He also worked in a 2.

    One autumn, most of the farmers in the village were 3, so he promised to help his neighbor harvest（收割）the corn as he often did. 4, after harvesting his own corn, Grandpa's little corn machine broke. What was 5, the factory where Grandpa worked made the workers have extra work. He had to 6 the farm early and didn't get back until very late. It now seemed 7 to help out his neighbor because he really had no free time.

    One night, Grandpa 8 that he wouldn't let his neighbor's harvest rot（腐烂）in the field. Without a 9, he'd harvest it by hand.

    “I don't think you'd have time to do it,” said my grandma. “10, it would be too dark to do anything at night.”

    “I know of one night that I could do it!” he 11. “There's still one more full moon in October. If the 12 is clear, I think I can do it.”

    A few days later, after a long shift（轮班）at the factory, my grandpa went to the 13. The weather was cold but clear. He cut all the corn through the night to 14 his word.

    Sometimes, when I want to put off responsibilities, I'd see my grandfather 15 corn in the light of the harvest moon. Behind him, row after row of corn stocks（玉米秸秆）stand at attention in respect for a man who keeps his word.

    I made a pledge(发誓) to myself on the way down to the vacation beach cottage. For two weeks I would try to be a loving husband and father. Totally loving. No ifs, ands or buts.

    The idea had come to me as I listened to a talk on my car radio. The speaker was quoting (引用) a Biblical(圣经的) passage about husbands being thoughtful(体贴的) of their wives. Then he went on to say. "Love is an act of will. A person can choose to love. "To myself, I had to admit that I had been a selfish husband. Well, for two weeks that would change

    And it did. Right from the moment I kissed Evelyn at the door and said, "That new yellow sweater looks great on you."

    "Oh, Tom, you noticed," she said, surprised and pleased, maybe a little puzzled.

    After the long drive, I wanted to sit and read. Evelyn suggested a walk on the beach. I started to refuse, but then I thought, "Evelyn's been alone here with the kids all the week and now she wants to stay with me." We walked on the beach while the children flew their kites.

    So it went. Two weeks of not calling the Wall Street firm where I am a director; a visit to the shell museum though I usually hate museums. Relaxed and happy, that's how the whole vacation passed. I made a new pledge to keep on remembering to choose love. There was one thing that went wrong with my experiment, however. Evelyn and I still laugh about it today. Last night at our cottage, preparing for bed, Evelyn stared at me with the saddest expression.

    "What's the matter?" I asked her.

    "Tom," she said in a voice filled with distress, "do you know something I don't?"

    "What do you mean?"

    "Well…that checkup(体检)I had several weeks ago… our doctor…did he tell you something about me? Tom, you've been so good to me…am I dying?"

    It took a moment for it all to sink in. Then I burst out laughing.

   "No, honey, "I said, wrapping her in my arms." You're not dying; I'm just starting to live."

Some children don't like their schoolbags. Schoolbag makes them think of books and homework. My schoolbag is different. It is from my father, and there is a name "Mary" on it. I love it because it holds everything I need.

I love books and my schoolbag keeps them with me. I don't mean only schoolbooks. I mean my reading books, too. Now I am reading Peter Rabbit. After that, I will read Harry Potter.My schoolbag also holds my lunch box. Dad always puts a good lunch in my schoolbag. Sometimes he puts a note in it. That way, I feel happy all the afternoon.

Sometimes my schoolbag is very heavy, but I don't mind. It has everything I need. It's like a home on my back.

My uncle Harry's birthday was coming. I hadn't seen him or his1 Carl for long, so I decided to visit both of them. However, days before, they had had a serious argument.2 recently they realized it was just a misunderstanding, both of them didn't want to say sorry first. They were still a little 3 with each other. I decided not to mention the other after seeing one of them." As time goes by, they will 4 naturally,"I thought.

One day they both wanted to stay with me to have a chat. So I decided to be with Uncle Harry during the afternoon and promised Uncle Carl I'd visit him for a 5 . I made my plan secret.

That afternoon, Uncle Harry first gave me a tour of the town. At 4:00 pm, he said,"I'm a little hungry. Let's have dinner!"6 taking no for an answer, he took me to a restaurant called Montana Mike's, which is known for its beef, burgers and pizza in town.7 I'd soon have dinner with Uncle Carl,I hoped to get by with salad. But he ordered me a lot of beef.

After dinner, we said goodbye and I 8 made my way to Uncle Carl's place. When I arrived, Uncle Carl gave 9 almost the same tour. Then, I stopped before Montana Mike's again. I hoped not to be 10 to eat much beef again and not to meet the same waitress.

" Haven't you just come?" the waitress asked." It might be my twin brother,"I joked cleverly. Then,I tried once again to order 14 . But Uncle Carl, like his brother, didn't agree. He also ordered some beef for me. When I went back, I felt like my stomach was about to burst(爆炸). Later, both uncles knew the truth and couldn't help laughing, which quickened their getting along. And after that, I 15 had to have two beef dinners in two hours again.

Last Friday, after doing all the family shopping in the town, I felt really 1 . So I wanted to have a rest 2 catching the rain. I3 a newspaper and some chocolate and went into the station4 shop. It was a cheap self-service place with long tables to sit at. I put my heavy bag down on the floor, put the newspaper and the chocolate on the 5 and then went to get a cup of coffee. 

When I came back with the coffee, there was 6 sitting in the next seat. It was a boy, with dark glasses and old clothes, and colored bright red at the front. To my surprise, he had started to eat my chocolate!

I was quite uneasy(不爽的) about him, but I didn't want to have any trouble. I just read the newspaper, 7 my coffee and took a piece of chocolate. The boy looked at me in 8 . Then he took a second piece of my chocolate. I could hardly believe it. But I still didn't say 9 to him. When he took a 10 piece, I felt more angry than uneasy. I thought, "Well, I shall have the last piece. " And I got it. 

The boy gave me a strange look, then stood up. As he left, he shouted out aloud, "There's something wrong with that woman!" 11 looked at me, but I didn't want to quarrel with the boy, so I kept 12 . I did not realize(意识到) that I had made a mistake until I finished my coffee and planned to 13 . My face turned 14 when I saw my unopened chocolate under the newspaper. The chocolate that I had been eating was15 !
