    Jim comes from the U.S. He is now living in China. He gets up at about 6:30 and has breakfast at 7:00. After breakfast, he says goodbye to his parents and leaves home at 7:30. He usually walks to school. He gets there at 7:55. He has his first class at eight.

    Morning classes are over at 12:10 and he has lunch 10 minutes later. After lunch he plays with his friends.

    Afternoon classes begin at 1:30. Usually there are two lessons in the afternoon. The y finish at 3:30. Usually he plays games or other things at school, and he gets home at about 5:15. He has dinner at six and then does his homework and then watches TV. He goes to bed at about 10:30.

    Xie Wanying (October 5, 1900-Febrary 28.1999), better known by her pen name Bing Xin, was oneof the most well-known Chinese writers of the 20^th century. Many ofher works were written for young readers. Her pen nameBing Xin carries the meaning of a pure heart, and is taken from a line in aTang Dynasty poem by Wang Changling.

    Bing Xin was born in Fuzhou, Fujian, but moved toShanghai with her family when she was seven months old, and later moved yetagain to the coastal port city of Yantai, Shandong, when she was four.Such a move had akey influence on Bing Xin's personality and philosophy (哲学)of love and beauty, as the hugeness and beauty of the sea greatly opened youngBing Xin's mind and heart. It was also in Yantai, Bing Xin first began to readthe classics of Chinese literature, such asRomance of the Three KingdomsandWater Margin, when she was just seven.

    In 1913, Bing Xin moved to Beijing. She started herwriting career as she wrote for a school newspaper at Yanjing University whereshe was a student and published her first novel. Bing Xin graduated fromYanjing University in 1923 with a bachelor's degree, and went to the UnitedStates to study at Wellesley College, earning a master's degree at Wellesley inliterature in 1926. She then returned to Yanjing University to teach until1936.

    In 1929, she married Wu Wenzao, her good friend whenthey were studying in the United States. In literature, Bing Xin founded the"Bing Xin Style" as a new literary style. Shecontributed a lot to children's literature in China such asA Myriad ofStars (1923),Spring Water (1923),Six-one sister(1924),ToYoung Readers (1926),Homeward South (1931),The Collected Worksof Bing Xin(1932-1933). Bing Xin's literary career was productive. Shewrote a lot of works — prose, poetry, novels, reflections and so on. There is aBing Xin Literature Museum in Changle in Fujian Province. The Bing XinChildren's Literature Award is named in her honour.

Being home to the largest second-hand bookstore in the world, Hay-on-Wye is more than just a small town in Wales — it's a book heaven on the earth.

The history of Hay-on-Wye as the"town of books" began on the April Fool's Day of 1977.A man called Richard Booth jokingly called himself King of Hay and said the town was now a country! Since then, he has succeeded in building a healthy tourism industry about books. Today thousands of visitors come to Hay-on-Wye every year to look for whatever books they need.

Before Booth's great idea, Hay-on-Wye was a slowly dying town having less than 2, 000businesses. The king of Hay-on-Wye opened his first bookstore in 1961, and later encouraged his friends in the trade to come to Hay. After a few. years, he filled almost every building with books. Hay-on-Wye now has over thirty bookshops, many selling second-hand books, which has made the town pleasant for book collectors.

Hay-on-Wye has its special honour with over one million books sold here every year. Unlike other book dealers(交易商), Richard Booth doesn't centre on any one topic. He buys any type of books believing that every book is valuable and someone in the world wants it. Book lovers from all over the world come to Hay-on-Wye because a large number of books here are at low prices.

Since 1988, Hay-on-Wye has also been the place for a famous literary(文学) festival, now supported by The Guardian, which draws hundreds of thousands of visitors to see and hear big literary names from all over the world.

Once a dying small town, Hay-on-Wye is now a pleasant tourist town, with ten percent of its population working in the book business, and local businesses benefiting(得益于) from the waves of

tourists coming here in search of books.

When Barbara was young, she dreamed of being a writer. In 1972, she {#blank#}1{#/blank#} a children's book and wanted to get it published. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}, she failed. Barbara finally made the hard decision to give {#blank#}3{#/blank#} her dream.

Luckily, Barbara's grandson Chad made her dream come {#blank#}4{#/blank#} last Christmas. Chad discovered his {#blank#}5{#/blank#} old manuscript (手稿) by accident. Reading the pages, he was {#blank#}6{#/blank#} by the story. He decided to give his grandmother a perfect Christmas gift—the publication of her book.

{#blank#}7{#/blank#} Christmas morning, Chad handed Barbara a gift bag. As Barbara carefully opened the gift, she couldn't believe {#blank#}8{#/blank#} eyes. It was {#blank#}9{#/blank#} beautiful printed book! She was so excited that she didn't realize Chad was {#blank#}10{#/blank#} a video. Since Chad posted the video online, it has had over 4 million views and about 800000 likes. "This is probably the {#blank#}11{#/blank#} thing someone has ever done for me." Barbara says in the video.

Nearly everybody enjoys chicken, and the most famous name in chicken is Kentucky Fried Chicken. Mr Sanders, the man who started this1 was not always very rich. At one time, he2 a small gas station next to a highway(公路). Many truck drivers3 there to get gas and take a rest. Mr Sanders realized they were often4 , so he began serving sandwiches and coffee.5 the sandwiches tasted good, and didn't6 too much money, more and more7 came to eat at his place.8 Mr Sanders began to serve fried chicken. People9 it very much, and his new business grew quickly. Not long after, however, another highway was open, and many drivers didn't go to Mr Sanders' restaurant. So he had to10 it. Then he traveled around the country trying to sell his idea of opening fried chicken restaurants. He finally made it. By 1967, there were almost 5000 Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants. And now, when you go to any place in the United States, you will see one. If you like chicken, I'm sure, you' ll enjoy eating Kentucky Fried Chicken.
