How will our continuously growing population affect our way of life, our environment, even our planet? No matter how you look at it, we will face {#blank#}1{#/blank#}extremely serious problem. By the middle of the 21st century, we {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(use) up all the oil that drives our cars if at the rate we're going. Even if scientists develop some new {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(way)of feeding the human race, the crowded conditions on the earth will make {#blank#}4{#/blank#}necessary for us to look for open space somewhere else. But none of the planets in our solar system are able {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(support) life at present. One possible solution {#blank#}6{#/blank#}the problem, however, has recently been suggested by an American scientist, Professor Carl Sagan. His idea is {#blank#}7{#/blank#}before the earth's resources are almost exhausted, it will be {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(total)possible to change the atmosphere of Venus（金星）and so create a new world almost as large as earth itself.

    However, {#blank#}9{#/blank#}his idea is turned into reality, humans have a long way to go. On the one hand, Venus is much {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(hot)than the earth; on the other hand, there is only a tiny amount of water there.

    My friend had a chance to make a trip to Hong Kong {#blank#}1{#/blank#} August 15, 2011. He had dreamed about {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (visit) it since his boyhood and it {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (be) the first time that he had been there. The following was {#blank#}4{#/blank#} he had seen.

    Arriving there, he was happy {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (see) its beautiful scenery and tall buildings. It is said that Hong Kong has the most skyscrapers in the world. Wherever he went, he saw many smiling {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (face) there. People in Hong Kong were easygoing and{#blank#}7{#/blank#} (friend). To {#blank#}8{#/blank#}（he）surprise, he saw that people there always kept order in public places. {#blank#}9{#/blank#} there were many people waiting in line for the next train at the subway station, they tried to talk in a low voice in order not to disturb(打扰) others. Chinese and English are their official(官方的) languages. English is {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (wide) used in governments, markets, service centers and other fields.

    The first UN Chinese Language Day {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (observe) on Friday at UN Headquarters in New  York in 2010. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} the world's most widely spoken language, it seems appropriate that Mandarin (普通话) has one day every year dedicated (把…专用于) to it. This {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (official) marked day of Mandarin language celebration was set by the United Nations as a way of celebrating the language's history and {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (contribute) to the world. It is hoped that having one day every year {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (celebrate) Mandarin will encourage more people around the world to take it up. With China likely to become the {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (large) economy in the world, it is important that the wider world becomes interestingly more perfect in this wonderful language. Every year UN Chinese Language Day {#blank#}7{#/blank#} ( fall) on April 20. A great way to get {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (involve) in the celebration is to join a Mandarin class or attend one of the many Confucius Institutes (孔子学院){#blank#}9{#/blank#} are set up in countries around the world. The number of people learning Chinese is on {#blank#}10{#/blank#} increase in China's neighboring countries, such as Korea, Japan, and Vietnam.

    On arriving in the United States, I felt everything was different. There were many new things I had to adapt to. One thing that really {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (take) me a long time to adapt to was speaking the language.

    I remember {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (clear) that I had to struggle to learn English because I couldn't even write a short paragraph to introduce myself at the first day of my English class.

    The teacher asked me {#blank#}3{#/blank#} it was difficult for me. If it was, I could change to level one! However, I was stubborn and swore that I was going to succeed.

    I started to spend many {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (hour) per day, even though it was stressful, because I wanted to take advantage {#blank#}5{#/blank#} this special chance to study English in the U.S.A.

    I felt depressed because I couldn't understand {#blank#}6{#/blank#} people were saying even though I studied hard. However, I still kept {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (try) and never gave up.

    Now, I can tell you that I have improved a lot, but sometimes it is still easy for me to get {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (lose) if I don't know what topic people {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (talk) about. To adapt to this new language, I had to tell {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (I) that I could do it. I really believe I can!

    Recently Linda hasn't felt herself. She was a really good student, but her grades {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(fall) since three months ago. This is because she sometimes has trouble {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(put) her heart into her study. She also refuses {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(talk) with teachers and friends. What's worse, she feels {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(tire)all the time but has {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(difficult) in falling asleep. Her behavior attracts her mother's attention. Her mother asks her {#blank#}6{#/blank#}happens to her, but she just cries.

    As {#blank#}7{#/blank#}matter of fact, Linda is suffering from clinical depression(临床抑郁症).What is clinical depression? It can be described as a mood which is {#blank#}8{#/blank#} low that it affects your daily life seriously. The first signs of it in teens are {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(poor) school reports than before, learning difficulties and staying away from classmates and teachers. If you have these signs, don't worry. It is not so difficult to deal {#blank#}10{#/blank#}clinical depression. There are many effective ways, such as medicine, small talk, more exercise and a balanced diet.
