    My father used to work in the city and seldom stayed at home. But he would come back and help to harvest(收割) rice every year.

    One autumn, he promised to help our neighbour, who lost his arms in a traffic accident in 1999, to harvest his rice. After father harvested our own, his little rice picker broke. What's worse, he had to return to work the next day because his partner was ill in hospital. It meant that father wouldn't be back in a few days. It now seemed impossible to help out the neighbour.

    Father told us that he wouldn't let the neighbour's rice rot(腐烂) in the field. He decided to harvest it by hand without a machine. "If tonight's weather is clear, I think I can do it, "added my father. In fact, he was rather tired after a day's harvest work.

    After dinner, father had a short rest and made his way to the field. A full moon was glowing(发光) in the sky and the weather was cold but clear. He spent the whole night keeping his word.

    I would never forget the image(画面): Father was cutting rice in the light of the harvest moon. Behind him, row after row of rice stocks(秸秆) stood at attention, showing respect for a man who kept his word.

    A well-dressed man goes into a restaurant one day. He sits down at a table near the window. A waiter comes up to him and says, “Can I help you, sir?”

    The man says, “Can I see the menu?” “Certainly.”

    The man wants a good meal and he wants a lot of nice dishes. The waiter gets them for him. The man is having his meals. At this time, a boy comes in and sits beside the man. He asks the man to give him an ice cream. The man does so.

    Now the boy is eating his ice cream. The man says, “I go out for a newspaper.” The man goes out.  After the boy eats his ice cream up, he stands up and goes to the door.

    “Excuse me. Your father doesn't give the money for the meal and your ice cream,” The waiter stops him and says.

    “Father? You are wrong. He isn't my father. I don't know him. I meet him in the street. He says he will give me an ice cream if I come here at 12 o'clock.”

    Two frogs lived in a village. One day they wanted to go and see the big 1 that was about ten miles away.

Those gloves never lasted longer than three years. He first decided to buy the expensive gloves, because they would make him feel nice in front of others.

    George never let a drop of water or rain touch his expensive gloves, so they looked new. Losing this favorite thing was almost like losing a child to him. Bad luck! Geogorge lost his expensive gloves on New Year's Day.

    Back home, George was at a loss. In deep winter, he could not do without a pair of gloves. If he bought cheap ones again, he would have to replace(更换) them vey soon. If he bought a new leather pair, it would cost ＄50 now. He was upset that people no longer returned things they found on the road.

    After the holiday, poor George decided to buy another leather pair. Before boarding the subway, he went into Value Mart again to see if his gloves had been returned to the Lost and Found Office(失物招领处).

    "What color are they?" the woman in the office asked again.

    "Black," he gave the same answer. She looked onto her drawer and drew out a pair of men's leather gloves. "Are they?"
