Can you write down Chinese characters(汉字) that are read to you? It can be {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(difficult), especially when the Chinese characters are not included in most dictionaries.

    Lu Jialei, a student from Hangzhou Foreign Language School, {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (win) the Chinese Character dictation(听写)Competition on Oct. 18, 2013.

During the competition, the host read Chinese characters to the student, {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(explain) their meanings and gave example sentences. The student was required to write down the Chinese characters.

    Winning the competition was a(n) {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (surprise) to Lu. "I am not the smartest one," she said. "But I pay attention to details(细节)."

    To prepare {#blank#}5{#/blank#} the competition, Lu and her teammates studied the Modern Chinese for 10days. She {#blank#}6{#/blank#} had a secret wepon(武器).She studied how Chinese characters were formed.

    In the final round of the competiton, the host read wanluan to Lu and said it {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (mean) graceful（优雅的）. "I had never heard that before!" said Lu. But she made a good guess. "Chinese characters meaning graceful often have '女' in {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (they), while many Chinese characters pronouncing luan have '亦'. So I wrote it down: '婉娈' ."

    Lu has good reading habits. "When others pay attention to the main idea of a(n) {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(story), she looks at how the author uses words and sentences to express himself or herself," said Su Yunsheng, Lu's Chinese teacher.

    Su is happy {#blank#}10{#/blank#} see students like Lu find the beauty of Chinese language. "Learning to write Chinese characters is an important part of inheriting(继承)culture," said Su.
