Every society has {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (it) special words, expressions and ways of saying things. One of the popular expressions in the United States is "Hitting the books". It {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (mean) studying a subject with great effort(努力).

    One of the great challenges for students {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (be) taking tests. Students spend long hours {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (prepare) for a test. They read all their books carefully, and then read them {#blank#}5{#/blank#} second time and a third time. They prepare for every possible question. They study every night. They are "hitting the books."

    In the United States, most children go to school {#blank#}6{#/blank#} they are five years old. Public education is free and most children go to schools near their homes. School in these early years is fun. Children learn {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (read) and write, but they also play games and go on trips. There is no reason at such an early age for them to hit the books.

    This situation changes as children become older. The subjects become {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (difficult). Students must learn {#blank#}9{#/blank#} world history, algebra(代数) and life sciences. Tests become more common.

    Pressure is growing to hit the books, study hard, and advance(升级). {#blank#}10{#/blank#}, most students only really begin hitting the books for long hours when they reach high school.

Knowledge is a prize that is not easy to gain.

    One of the most well-known Chinese skills is kung fu. Chinese kung fu is a series (系列) of fighting skills with a long history in China. And it {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (think) as a traditional sport and part of Chinese culture. It {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (include) Shaolin, Tai Chi, Yongchun and so on. It has lots of followers all over the world. Some Westerners think that all Chinese people are good at kung fu. That's not true, {#blank#}3{#/blank#} this traditional skill has much influence in the locals' life style.

     {#blank#}4{#/blank#} kung fu is a fighting skill, it advocates (提倡) virtue and peace. This has been its common value {#blank#}5{#/blank#} generation (—代人) to generation. With a number of movements and fighting actions, kung fu keeps {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (it) first function (作用) of self-protection. Now more and more people of different ages practise it {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (keep) healthy. Many kung fu training centres or clubs appear. Kung fu movies also attract great attention outside China. Even foreigners make {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (they) own movies about kung fu. Kung fu movie stars, including Bruce Lee, Jet Li and Jackie Chan, are famous for the fantastic kung fu {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (skill). They help kung fu become {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (popular) than ever around the world.

    It was a very special day because Dylan Terry came to the West End Children's Home！Dylan Terry is my favourite{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(sing). I like him because he sings{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(wonderful). He's cute and he helps the kids a lot.

    We{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(stand) near the door, waiting for him. Everyone was very excited. Finally, he arrived{#blank#}4{#/blank#}shook hands with us. He was so nice! He sang several songs for us. Some of us even started dancing{#blank#}5{#/blank#}he was singing. We were having a great time!

    {#blank#}6{#/blank#}our surprise, Dylan joined us for lunch .He brought us{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(an) big cake. Everyone ate some and{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(they) was delicious. While we were eating, Dylan told us many interesting{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(story) about himself. I never thought I could talk to my favourite pop star. It was just like a dream. I {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(remember) this unforgettable experience forever.
