Yu Minhong, president of New Oriental Education, shared his ideas with the young after the English speech competition of the 14th China Daily. Here is some of his advice to young people:

    “One suggestion I'd like to give you is that it's important to do what you like without fear of failure. And the process（过程）of working toward your dreams matters more than the results. Young people should take chances to show off talents. Take competitions like this one as an example: If you are afraid to fail, you'll never get the chance to stand on the stage and make a speech. Above all, it's most important to take part.

    Another suggestion I want to give you is to read books. It is not easy to keep reading every day. For me, it is much more difficult and challenging to keep reading and taking notes every day than it is to walk 10,000 steps.”

    In his speech, Yu also shared his view on life. He chose a different life rather than a more successful one. He uses the famous lines of American poet Robert Frost (1874–1963) to make his point:“Two roads diverged (分叉) in a wood, and I … took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.”Yu pointed out, “Your happiness should not be what others think you should run after, but instead you should decide what it is. It is you who should make choices for your own life.”

    The world is an interesting place. Different people like different things.

    Many people like sports, but they don't all like the same sports. In some countries, cricket（板球运动）is a very popular sport. In others it is not popular at all. No one plays it or watches it on TV. However, most people like soccer. The World Cup is very popular. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}

    Different people like different foods. Some people don't like meat,  {#blank#}3{#/blank#} Some people don't like potatoes or bread. They prefer rice.

    Many people like travelling. Different people like different places. Some people like to go to the country.

    Life in the future will be very different from life today. What will the change(变化)be? There will be changes in our food. Maybe(或许)no one will eat meat every day. They will eat fruit and vegetables. Computers will be very small, and there will be at least(至少)one in every home. People will take the computers in their pockets. Work in the future will be different, too. Robots will do dangerous and hard work. People will have more free time to travel.

    I had a summer camp with my classmates last year. Early in the morning, we gathered at the bus station .After saying goodbye to our parents, we got on the buses. It took us more than two hours to arrive at the camp ground

    We got off the buses cheerfully. Laughing and shouting, we jumped and ran all over the place. It was the first time for us to be away from the parents. Some of us started to feel homesick However, when the night party find dances began, the homesickness(想家)was gone.

    The next day, everybody rushed to the boating class, hoping to be at the head of the others. At first, my friends and l worked hard, but the boat wouldn't listen to us and kept going round and round. Then the teacher taught us how to work together. After many tries, we did much better.

    Swimming class was my favourite. It was about the hottest time of a day and the best time to stay in the cool water. The swimming teacher was a funny man, and during the class he often made us laugh happily.

    During the week I learned a lot of new things and made many new friends. I also learned how to take care of myself.

    ［1］It is reported that 300 million people in China have eyesight trouble. More and more parents hope to save their children's eyesight with medicine, or by correcting the ways that children read and sit. But in fact, one should start with the exercise on one's feet. Here are three ways to save eyes:

    First, don't tie your shoes too closely. Try wearing comfortable and soft socks or walking without socks and shoes at home. While you are traveling, try wearing cloth shoes in order to improve blood circulation(循环).

    Second, walking on tiptoes is good for one's eyesight. It can fight against eyesight trouble. Numbers show that most of ballet(芭蕾舞)performers' eyesight is better.

    Third, rope skipping(跳绳)can also be good for one's eyesight. While skipping rope, one has to move quickly, making both the brain and the eyes excited. It may also help make one grow taller.

    ［2］Besides foot exercises, it is good to pull one's ears. Pulling the ears 20 times quickly is also a great way. It can keep one's eyes healthy.
